We grabbed a different $30 balance bike off of SD for our then 2 year old, had him confidently on pedals (skipped training wheels entirely) by his 3rd birthday. Took maybe 10 or 15 minutes of getting used to the pedals and he was off.

Amazing how these fast track kids to riding a bike. We get people hanging out their car window yelling "how old is that kid?!?" which never gets old. Highly recommend.

Got this from the last deal and my 18 month old son loves it but when he's pushing the bike forward his feet get stuck under the side bars a lot, but I'm assuming that's because he's doing it wrong and it's not the bike's fault.

Got one this time!! We needed the girl one for my grand daughter for Christmas! Great deal on one of these. Added a big jar of peanut butter to get over the free shipping limit.

There's always the option of removing the pedals and training wheels from a kids bike and lowering the seat all the way for new riders to get similar functionality. When they get the hang of balancing on the bike, re-install the pedals and watch them go. Won't be a nice as the setup here, but will remove the chance of tripping over an extra kids bike in the garage after you've sworn multiple times it will be sold in the next garage sale...

Balance bike by itself taught my daughter to ride a bike with no training wheels. Couldn't be happier with the easy transition.

Unfortunately I think the days of garage sales are all but gone.

I find it is the opposite. With stores closed and a lot of people stuck at home, things like craigslist and facebook marketplace exploded with activity.

I did the same to a bike, but it didn't work that well compared to started with a balanced bike unless doing that like 3 or older

Balanced bike is designed to stand with feet flat on the ground, but bike is not. The seat on balanced bike can be seated a lot lower than regular bike and also lighter to handle.

Because of that, my boy could barely toe tipping on the converted bike at 2.5 years, let alone riding it. At 3, he could finally do some riding but very hard and easy to fell because he couldn't stand well with the converted bike and easily fell off.

So, bought this bike (the green one) from last deal and set the seat a lower than the converted bike. He's happier than ever, so much easier for him. In a week of time, my wife complained he's gone too far.
I could have done this when he's 2. And for $30 with a helmet, just skip the effort of taking out and reinstalling the pedals.

Didn't have pickup at store as an option. Walmart recommenced me stuff to get right up to the free shipping (went with 30 pack of granola bars).

Thanks for mentioning this. I have a 6yo who has ASD and he isn't able to pedal a real bike yet. We've tried buying him two of these but he's just too big. I'm going to have his Dad take the pedals and training wheels off his real bike so he can learn to balance.
