So I actually just finished trying to make a warranty claim for an Allclad pan. Had a set of pots/pans for about 5 years and over the past few months the non-stick coating started wearing off one of them.

Emailed Allclad and sent pics, and was told that the non-stick coating wears off this way from normal use, and it's not covered under warranty. I asked if they have a option for repair/refurbishment, and this was their answer:

"Unfortunately we do not resurface or repair our cookware. We are hosting a online sale if you are interested in replacing the pan. The link is below..."

I have the tendency to pay a significant premium for items that advertise with a "lifetime warranty," but I would advise avoiding Allclad unless you're buying from Costco.
Sorry, but people that don't (or in reality simply won't because it doesn't serve them) understand what many/most of these mfgs "life time warranty" policies are is what ruins the warranties for everyone else in the end. It's why REI changed, it's why Costco changed, it's why LL Bean changed, etc. The number of abusers/willfully ignorant far exceeds the number of honest buyers.

A product is warranted against failure from mfg defects, not from everyday use. Contrary to what some people think it doesn't mean that you get a "buy it once, use the hell out of it, and expect a new replacement on demand" warranty. Those that do are the ones that basically ruin it for everyone else. Look up LL Beans statement when they discontinued their 70-80 year+ policy. Same for REI's 70 year policy.

BTW - I have some non stick pans and the truth is we'd all be better off not using them. Especially those with Teflon, the "forever in your body chemical that won't break down". If you have Teflon, better to get rid of it safely if possible (send it to the sun in a SpaceX flight???) ..

While I agree with your points, all clad is intentionally being misleading with their marketing.

It should change its marketing/warranty to make it clear.

They list specific exclusions such as

Any glass or porcelain in the product.
Dust or insects inside the product
non-stick deterioration that occurs from misuse or abuse.

When specifics above are listed it misleads purchasers into thinking nonstick coverage is also lifetime since nonstick deteriorated not from misuse or abuse in eyes of consumer.

Instead of not covering nonstick by implicitly grouping it into normal product wear & tear, they should just list it as a specific exclusion.

If you think about it, what percentage of pans have insects in product vs what percentage of nonstick pan will lose it's coating overtime? If the former made it as a specific exclusion I see no reason why the later should not.

Been waiting a long time to be able to grab the 12in. copper core skillet and finally nabbed one. Always not included or sold out before I get online. Got a ribeye roast cryovac'ed and waiting to be cut into steaks for this bad boy. Thanks!

I dont see any reason to spend $95 on a nonstick. It uses the same non-stick coating as every other non-stick pan. They're good for eggs and a small amount of other things. I use one maybe 1 meal a month and my $19 non-stick I got from Target is still totally functional after 3 years.
I bought an All Clad non stick, after a couple years, coating doesn't look good at all. Was a quality pan while it lasted, used mostly just for breakfast one person.

Thoughts on this as a good pan to start with? Or should I go with D3? This would be my first piece of All-Clad...

The America's Test Kitchen review said the only real difference Is heating up and price. Not a big difference with this deal.

sure. i have a berndes non stick pan I got in the 90's and it's still in very good condition but other 3-4 berndes pans are gone for years...

teflon degrades at certain temps.. if you use it to sear or anything of sorts (brown, or it cooks without water) once temp goes over 350f, it starts to degrade... the non-stop 2qt saucier I have is mostly used to warm things up and make quick sauces, which rarely go over 212f.

350F, where did you get that? Always thought it was 500F

500 is where it will actively burn/smoke. It degrades at a lower temperature than that

I think that's only if you're a bird.. You're talking about the study by Boucher, M., Ehmler, TJ and Bermudez, AJ. 2000 right?

my opinion. always my opinion. 500f maybe what they are rated to and maybe at 500f it started to degrade very fast. i dont like getting teflon past 350f, as imo it starts the process at which pan is useless in 2-3 years, vs if you use it for water based sauces, functions = 20 years

all of that assuming no one is using metal based utencials, cutting inside pans, scraping with anything abrassive, etc...

I have never bought it from this web site. It mentions the "Second Quality". How is the quality of this to compare to the First Quality (from Macy's or Costco)? I see they have package damage and 2nd quality, which one is better the quality? TIA.

You're probably better off with an enameled cast iron Dutch oven.

It's a bit luck-of-the-draw on factory seconds. Some defects will be greater than others, but most are pretty minor.

Packaging damage is presumably just damage to the box and the cookware inside is still first quality.
