Nstarz, can you run prime95 and hwinfo64 on this hp ryzen 5 4500u for 10 minutes and let me know if the cpu throttles? Nobody appears to be interested to test if this laptop throttles, unfortunately. Thanks.

Seems to be. 4 Ghz when I turn it off. About 3 Ghz when hot.

Keep in mind there are different fan profiles via HP Command Center, might want to try performance for that test.

I just got mine and went through the initial setup, and the touchpad and keyboard are not responding properly. Should I try and troubleshoot it or just assume I got a dud and exchange it now?
I had issue with keyboard and trackpad response on 2nd day. Shutdown the laptop and hold the power button for 15 seconds and power it on. Mine was fine after it. Didn't see problem again.

I used a Dell USB C docking station, and it worked. 🙈

Picked this up on Wednesday. So far, overall quite pleased with it and seems like the value is tough to beat at $599. At $799 I might consider other options, particularly with a better keyboard. But I am coming from a $2500 MB Pro for work, so I am slightly jaded by that. Here are my thoughts after a few days of use:

Screen - Seems pretty good so far, plenty bright for my use. Colors are more muted than MB Pro. Haven't played around with color settings though. Very glossy, touchscreen use could cause a ton of fingerprint smudges. Bezel is annoying at first but after a while I didn't really notice it. (See attached photo of the x360 side by side with my MB Pro and both screens on max brightness).

Trackpad - This is my biggest annoyance. Plastic feeling, too much travel when clicked, sometimes taps aren't recognized. Will use a wireless mouse in most situations so not end of the world, but definitely a pain when forced to use it.

Keyboard - Somewhat disappointing here as well. Smaller keys and slightly larger spacing than my MB pro has caused a lot of typos. Keys in the middle of the keyboard are fairly quiet while those at both the left and right edge have a hollow, plasticky sound. Have to get used to it being off center due to number pad.

Fingerprint reader is excellent. Immediate recognition every time.

Overall performance seems very good. Boots in a few seconds. Loads apps quickly. So far no issues with multiple tabs, but haven't really maxed this out yet.

Battery life seems very good but time will tell. Have yet to watch a movie, game, or do anything very taxing. Haven't heard fans at all or noticed any heat, even when doing updates.

Physically, it is noticeably heavier than MB Pro, but I will not be carrying this around daily so not that big of an issue. Wouldn't want to have to haul it in a backpack all day though.

Fit and finish seem quite good overall. Hinges aligned, lid closes completely, so far no QC issues that others have mentioned. Feels solid, though there is more flex in the screen than my MB, it's not concerning. Biggest complaint here is that the lid seems to be a magnet for smudges. Again, minor cosmetic thing but it is noticeable.

Probably will not use this in tablet mode, so no real comment here. Have not tried the pen yet.

Again, overall very pleased with it. Thanks to everyone who has contributed to this thread and helped in my decision to jump on this one.

I just tried playing Bioshock Infinite on this laptop last night. I would have run a more recent game, but I haven't really been a gamer for a few years now and all my games are outdated, lol. Ran magnificently though. I played on low for extra frames, but medium worked too, well above playability. There were a couple negatives: The battery got annihilated, lasted about half as long as it usually does (4.5hrs vs 10hrs), and it got pretty hot and the fan came on for the very first time since my BIOS update. Surprisingly, the fan was still very quiet. I got to experience the plus of the fan vents being on the sides with this model, versus the BestBuy Envy x360 that puts its vents on the bottom. Overall, pleased with gaming abilities.

Sorry man, checked out from SD and this thread for a couple days. Glad to see someone else answered you. There are videos on YT for squeezing the most performance out of these Ryzen chips I think, there are a few settings that can be tweaked if I remember correctly.

I got to check this out in store, it's $10 cheaper. But the screen is ok. Brightness is fine but color gamut is not 100%. I didn't realize this before but I need to add 100% color gamut to the very top of my list

Ended up picking this up in store. I'm a former gamer and power user (photo/video editing), but now I'm just a basic user. Great laptop for $600. The trackpad is truly garbage, but have a Logitech trackpad I can use on the side.

I've ran through the basic stuff everyone does by uninstalling bloatware, updating and optimizing the settings. I haven't heard the fan turn on yet. I also don't see a need to upgrade the 8gb ram just yet.
