TP-Link Archer C8 Router for $40.
Bundle with the RE360 together is $50. This is $10 off from a previous front page deal for the bundle.

Amazon has the Archer C8 router alone for $60 or more.

This router may also be compatible with DD-WRT, according to DD-WRT router database.

How's the range extender? Will it generate another SSID like the Netgear one does?

Yes. Whole different price category when discussing mesh networks.

I don't need an extender. But this is a pretty decent price for the router alone right?

Reviews on this are overall average, but for the price if you need a cheap solutions might fit the Bill. I could not find any professional reviews sites who went over this to know what speeds to expect but I am guessing it can easily dish out over 200mbps.

As for your SSID question, it will generate the same SSID with a EXT at the end to identify you are on the extender. If you choose you can modify it though. This will work just as well as one of the netgear ones, but not as good as one of the mesh netgear ones.

Yep, price for router by itself is very solid since even now most AC1750's are $70+ new.

Not necessarily. For under $100 you could get a A6/A7 and a RE305 extender, both of which support TP-Link OneMesh. It's not $50, but feels close, especially if you get them refurb from TP-Link it's about $70 total (when they are in stock).

C8 is newer, has usb 3 and also beam-forming. If you have amazon prime a7 should be $45, but I would go with c8
