Thank you so much! If I removed the R3 base station do I have to install anymore wires with the R7? I heard it comes with a back antenna?? Thanks again.

I had thought the same, however after applying an update, the R1 quickly became my favorite detector. I used to be a huge Beltronics fan, and I'll admit when Uniden first game out with their DFR series I completely dismissed them, after reading great reviews on the R1/R3s I bit and was initially disappointed (drive from Texas to Colorado missed almost all speed traps my Bels would have caught) . Having almost given up I noticed you could update the detector pretty easily and did it, completely changed the detector. For the price the Uniden is equivalent to my Beltronic units but with less false alerts
Valentines use RJ11 for power, so if you have wiring for V1 then you should be able to use Escorts/Beltronics/Unidens (R series) as well. I have a couple of friends that have the V1 Gen 2 and love it, great detector.
