PetSmart (B&M Only) $1/Gallon Aquarium Sale Until 08/02 YMMV

All Tetra and Marineland open glass aquariums from 2.5-40g are on sale for $1/gallon at PetSmart. The sale is in-store only. Our area was hit hard with tank purchases during the pandemic and many are OOS, so YMMV.

You can check a few using these links (Again, sale prices not reflected online.):

Tetra 2.5g [petsmart.com]

Tetra 10g [petsmart.com]

Tetra 20g
[petsmart.com]

Tetra 40g [petsmart.com]

Unlike Petco, this sale includes 2.5g, 5g, and 40g tanks.

Petco is rumored to be having their $1/gallon (10-29g) Aqueon sale (Read it here on SD. Thanks, swineflu22.) this Sunday, 07/12. Other Aqueon tanks should be 50% off. In March, Petco's 40g was $50 and their 55g was $70.

If Petsmart has switched over to Tetra and Marineland tanks for their $1/gallon sale, I guess that leaves just Petco and PetsuppliesPlus sales for the higher quality Aqueon tanks.

What makes you say that? I haven't had any leak or anything but those typical dollar/gallon Aqueon ones are sloppy with glue trails everywhere. Definitely water test them all outdoors or in a tub before use.

Off topic addenda: Anyone in the greater Sacramento region know a good affordable source for much larger tanks--like a 5ft or 6ft in the 100-300 gallon size? I see people selling them on Craigslist once in a while but I don't know where they get them in the first place.

Also like to find a source for some of the oddball sizes that are growing in popularity like the 33 gallon long which has the same footprint as a 55-gal.

PetSmart is going to be your best bet for larger, affordable standardized sizes. Unfortunately this hobby is like most that the more niche the product, the more expensive it likely is. You may be able to get a local glass manufacturer to custom make a tank but it's likely going to be the same price or higher and won't come with any warranty that covers filling with water.

I visited a store in sac called Exotic Aquariums or something like that. The store is very large with lots of fish, but they also have larger tanks in all sorts of sizes. I'm sure you could call them and ask for which ever tank size you are interested in. From the top of my head I remember a 72 gallon bow front without the holes for a sump was like $300. The larger tanks like 100-200 gallons were a couple hundred dollars and some of them could be bundled with a stand or canopy for a bit more. Not the craziest deals, but the only place around there that I have seen carry anything larger than a 55 gallon tank.

just how they look and how they feel when I pick them up. these are budget tanks, I'm not expecting ultra clear glass with seemingly invisible seams like the high end tanks, but I still do expect a certain level of quality.

I water test all my tanks before I put them to use.

Hahah I'm actually in the same area looking for the same thing....

I have a stand for a 75g, but I want to head towards a 150g to 180g to replace my 40, 15, and 5g. One big tank to rule them all. Lol

Just tired of the small tanks and I think one big one would be much nicer. I'm too wondering about it because I'm seeing these beautiful stands/tanks for 2k+ and that's just too rich for my blood. Lol

Tempted to move to saltwater, but I'm not sure if I'm ready for that yet.

Your best bet is to check facebook for local saltwater or freshwater groups. Here in north texas i have at least a dozen to choose from. You should have a ton in your area, it seems like a third of the people I see posting on the saltwater forums live somewhere in California. I see 200 to 250 gal used tanks for around $500 all the time. Find someone desperate and you can probably get in the $400 range.

Usually when you get to that size tank you are looking at someone like Planet Aquariums (formerly Oceanic), Red Sea, Waterbox Aquariums or a custom builder..

I am a Sacramento native and I can confirm it is called Exotic Aquarium. They definitely have many larger size tanks 150 gallon plus for sure as I have been there several times past few weeks. I also recommend marinedepot.com as a dependable seller for high quality goods like large tanks. They are located in San Diego.
