I bought a reusable bag of Etsy so you just unzip it, empty it and put it back in. Much better than throwing all that plastic and such into a landfill.
For someone that doesn't want to invite Xiaomi onto their home network, is the i7 the way to go? Or is Neato and it's lidar the better option. Got to say I like the idea of unloading at the base station and buying from Costco gives me piece of mind if it doesn't perform well.
Just snagged one. I've had a Roborock S5 for the last 1.5 years... it drives me insane. It works for months, then will lose its mind and rewrite a map on top of its stored map. Then it will take me weeks to get it working again. Each time, I'll have to reset it, then run it over and over to get a successful map.
I've been waiting for a deal on a map saving Roomba to see if it's more stable on map storage. I like that it is through Costco, as I know they'll back it if I have any issues.

I tried this one and the only value to me was the self empty, the map and how it cleaned were crap to me. I went with Roborock (I tried two of these and went with the S4 for my purposes) instead and love it.
Edit - sorry missed you don't want roborock. I looked at neato but just couldn't sell myself on it, but never tried it.

I've the Shark IQ since release - and it works pretty good.
It herps the derp (gets lost places) once in a while, but that's more a function of me and the gf not cleaning up very well. It's way better than any unmapping software roomba.
But I've heard that the mapping isn't as good as irobot. But for 450 or less for a base with a tower - I've not really had issues beyond needed to remove cat and gf hair off the brush once a week or so (Two long haired cats)
It's not the cloud, it's just WiFi. I have zero issues using iPhone, so some of these complaints may be specific to Android. Some complaints listed are unreasonable and simply not features. For example, no where does it say you can use the app to tell the Roomba where to go. The robot remembers where it left off if the bin is full or if it needs to recharge and will return to the base on its own if it started from the base. If you want to start in a particular room or spot, you physically put the robot there. It will run until the room is complete or it needs to recharge. If it is not near the base, like a different floor of your house, it just stops and the app notifies you. You can view the map any time. There is no way to save the maps manually as the map is being saved automatically. It takes a few runs to learn each room efficiently, but is also always changing because furniture, clothes, toys, etc. are normally things that move. I'm not saying the app and mapping are perfect, but overall it is pretty good if you have good WiFi coverage and are using an iPhone. I can't comment on Android because I haven't used it. iRobot also updates the app frequently, so some things may have been fixed since these complaints were made.

You can use the app though and tell it where to go room wise at least? You don't have to pick up the robot and physically move it to another room if it's been mapped out and labeled. You can also manually save the map it's built if you want to customize it with rooms and zones. You can also map multiple floors in the house and pick and choose where you want it to clean on those floors as well. But you are correct if the base is not up there it will stop usually where you started it once it's done.
I might be confused on your wording so apologies if that's the case.

Yes, that is right. You can schedule different rooms, but it has to finish mapping before you can schedule a particular room to clean. You can't just control anywhere it goes. It can also store up to 10 maps which means it will memorize 10 floors or separate spaces. I only have 2 floors so physically carry it to the second floor. It will clean the entire floor no matter where I put it down. It returns to that starting location when finished.

Here is a lot of complains that cloud recently is broken.
I have this issues as well.
Without the cloud some smart features do not work.

It's the Costco bundle of the i7

It isn't covered by the 2 year extended warranty but it is covered under their return policy. So yes take it back if it dies in 2 years.
