who is this machine for? That's a weirdly underpowered GPU for how the rest of the system is built.

Put a 1650 Super in there and now we're talking.

Unless I'm mistaken, at least in store you can if you have a Costco gift card

How good is is this system for work duties? Looking for a fast system for work/school and not gaming.

1650 super requires external power so at the very least you will need a sata power to pcie express adapter. Just make sure your PSU has enough juice to run it.

Low profile no external power needed 1650 would go right in.

Depends on what your "work duties" consists of? CAD or professional imaging? Eh. Office apps, programming IDEs, some light video editing, etc? This would be perfect.

Unless your work duties are GPU bound, this system should be just fine for you.

Sure they will. They'll just append a 5% upcharge. I just bought the MSI deal, and found it to be worth just renewing my card

This deal (the HP) has more value and offers a better "gaming" experience out of the box.

It will get you going but this is a better fit if you're looking for a good starter gaming PC.

No, the RX550 is not a gaming card at all. You'd be better off with a used gaming rig with something like a 1070. Those pop up used for $500-600

The 310W power rating for the HP's custom power supply [hp.com] is so minimal and specific to the system as to suggest against really stretching beyond the 50W rating of the included 550 video card. You could push for the extra 25 watts and probably be OK (it's not a sub-200W supply like some of the even more marginal systems in this range) but I do worry about stability in a system designed so tightly to a price.

Couldn't agree more about the value of the HP deal and the out of box experience. The Dell is a great productivity machine and would probably handle CPU-intensive tasks like a champ considering the price. However, the HP is just a more balanced system. They're both dead-end boxes with essentially zero upgrade path and no practical option for rescuing the internals to another case. But if I was choosing between them I'd pick the HP configuration every time.

Good luck!
Jon
