Great deal on the new Dell XPS 15.6" model with $400 savings plus the benefits of Costco laptop purchases. The same config will run $2500+ direct from Dell, without the Costco benefits.

This model is the 4K screen with a 1 TB SSD and 32 GB RAM. The new XPS has received excellent reviews all-around, especially now that the original trackpad issues have been resolved.

This is the only spec for the new XPS 15 that Costco has in stock. You can go to Dell and spec out a an 8GB/256GB version with the same GPU/screen/CPU for $1899, and use the -10% coupon to get you down to $1709. But then if you want to upgrade it on your own to 32GB/1TB there's no way you're going to get that for $291 more, and you'd still miss out on the Costco warranty/return period.

You absolutely can buy 32gb of ram and an m.2 NVME ssd for less than $291.

I just spent $205 for both recently, prosumer grade drive - 3000 Mb of random write and read performance for $140. You also have the benefit of having 2 NVME drives if you go the upgrade yourself route.

But that Costco warranty sounds great and well worth any savings if you do want that 4k screen.

It is a shame that the Costco purchasers selected the 6 core i7 instead of the 8 core i7. At their cost, it probably would have only added about $50 to the price.

I did notice within the last 3-4 days Dell has raised prices on some of the XPS 15 upgrades. It was previously $50 to upgrade from the 256 gb to the 500 gb SSD, now it is $100. It was also previously $300 to go from the 1080p screen to the 4K screen, now it is $400.

Are XPS laptops worth the high price point? They rarely seem to have any great deals for the 15 or 17

I am looking for a 4k laptop since i currently have 15in 4k asus and TO ME its worth it, i kind of wanted to get the 17in since its supposed to be very compact compared to other manufacturers

Anyone know of a B&M store that carries both the 17 and 15? I'd like to check them out side by side.

Well the 2020 XPS 15 and 17 are both new and have some noteworthy improvements over the prior models. Wait another month or two (if you can) and they will start to offer deals. I'm looking for a new laptop, and as much as the 2020 Dells are really nice looking, I'm not looking to pay 2k for a laptop with a 1650Ti. So I'm holding off for now.

I can wait till thanksgiving sales if needed, my main thing was wanting a 4k screen and there are very few options available

I know most people say 4k is useless, IMO it looks better

Hey, everyone is looking for different things. For most people 4k is overkill for a 15 or even 17 inch display. But if you need it for your use case then go for it.

With the economy worsening and thanksgiving around the corner there will be more deals as inventory builds up. Pretty sure they are trying to get get rid of the weaker 10750H processor and also read that there were touchpad issues with ones built before June, maybe these are all refurbs of units with issues, still new, but returned? Just guessing, but why else would the deal be so good? The processor is really not that great, the one thing you can't upgrade.

Apparently electronics are being purchased more though, because people are at home with nothing to do, or some are working from home and need better devices

Yeah but most ppl who are working from home already have laptops, so not like the entire workforce needs a new laptop, we have like 5 laptops that are spares, but old.
