How long before I would need to change the battery on the Flight? I had a few Seiko Chronograph's in the past and some have lasted about 9 months while another would be closer to 1.5 years.
Both of the SKX's appear to be the ones manufactured in Japan and not Malaysia which is a plus. Just got the 007 from Jomashop a few weeks ago for the $299.99 price which is hard to beat with the warranty Jomashop provides with these Seikos. These got discontinued and replaced with the seiko srpd's which you can get for cheaper with alot of different color / style variations. SRPD's also have a winding feature the SKX's don't. That being said the SKX's are the popular / classic way to go from the little research i did and will go up in value if you are a collector that will consider selling them down the line. Be warned that the rubber straps these come with aren't the best and i had an extremely hard time getting mine off without scratching the watch.
Got a Pepsi dial SKX from Joma a couple months ago for $275. My buddy got one from Joma about 6 months ago for $250 (I snoozed I lost). Yes a J model. This doesn't appear to be a deal. On a side not I love the watch... I put a bracelet on it.

It depends on how long the watch sat on the shelf before sale, especially with grey market retailers. So it's not super-uncommon to need to change batteries within the first year. But a new battery should last 2-3 years.
I love my skx013 but it is slightly annoying that when I wear a different watch for one day I better wear it right away afterward or swing it for 30 seconds before going to bed, otherwise it's dead the next day and the crown is very tight to loosen and adjust.
Not a knock against the Seiko, all automatics are going to have a limited reserve so it is what it is.
Hard to believe the skx is considered a deal now at $300. Never owned one but it's a discontinued classic. Cheers!
In fairness, both SKX's are the J models, made in Japan vs the more common K models made in either China or Malaysia. They've always been more expensive, even though, functionally, they're exactly the same. This is a really good price if you care about getting the J models.
