Nah. Try Sam's Scan and Go and you'll wonder why you're waiting in line at Costco.

According to the fine print, the $40 gift card and $40 off $250 online code are mailed 4-6 weeks after you activate the membership, but they also both expire on Dec 31. Keep that in mind if you plan to wait a while to activate, especially with all of the delays various delivery services have been experiencing lately, which are only likely to worsen as we get closer to Christmas.

edit: Groupon has confirmed in this thread that both the $40 off $250 online code and the $40 Shop Card expire at the end of January.

Also, the Groupon offer itself is available until August 31st.

Yes, you have about 11 months to do that.

Remember to sign up at BEGINNING of the month as membership always expires at end of month, 13 for 12.

Get 13 months of membership!!

Be sure to sign up in beginning of month since membership expires end of the month of expiration date.
For example, signing up September 1st 2020, your expiration is September 30th 2021.

TCB has 10% on Groupon right now.
Edit: Never mind. I see it's listed under the "local" section, which should hopefully give the full 10% off since it says "up to" 10% off.

Anyone else have a problem where you input your CC, add the Shop Card and then when you click pay for membership it craps out on you and gives an a message saying there was an error with the transaction and to either try again or call the 800 number? And then when you try again, your Shop Card magically has a $0 balance?

I called and they said it's a new program and they are trying to figure out what is going on. They can find me in the system but it shows no payment, yet the Shop Card money went somewhere...

Okay this is stupid. I might be doing something wrong.
When signing up, I entered my details and address and it errored out when creating a new account.
Then, I tried to do it over and tried a different address. It errored out again saying I'm already signed in.
So, went to costco.com and it's telling me I'm already signed in but now it's asking me to "renew" my membership for which i've never had a costco membership to begin with.

What do I do?

Their Kirkland brand is much better quality then Sam's members mark. Worth the wait In line.

Does anyone know if you can buy a $250 Gift Card to get the $40 off on that? I think that could make this slick.

Edit: After a lot of thinking, I don't think I personally can justify a Costco membership even for ~$20. It's a bit of a drive, I've found many cheaper alternatives elsewhere, Costco is a luxury/not a necessity, and this pandemic will likely go on for a lot longer - lockdowns or not. Also... while this is the lowest deal I've personally ever seen for Costco, they MIGHT make a better deal later on. Check out your local Aldi for groceries... and, again, ethnic stores or smaller grocery stores - if you have them

I don't shop there often, as my membership lapsed... but family goes there for gifts sometimes. We also like their muffins, cinnamon sugar butter bread, premade meals... I know a number of people that like their cheap foodcourt for outings, but that's not really a selling point during this pandemic, since it's somewhat not as open, and people aren't going out as much. Costco also has given out food samples, like Sam's Club, but I don't know if that's going on during the pandemic either.

Honestly, if you really shop deals, cook stuff yourself, and if you have ethnic markets near you, you might just overall save money by skipping it entirely. For example, there's some mexican supermarkets near me that often have crazy deals on strawberries (like $1 a package), other veggies, etc.... while Costco, in my opinion, is on the pricier side for produce and all that. It might be more "organic" type options, which always cost more & seem to have produce that is more aesthetically pleasing...

A lot of what Costco has seems somewhat higher end. I've heard they require manufacturers that make their Kirkland products to make the product actually better than their normal one to sell it at Costco. (Turns out to be a rumor, true or not - this link refers to what I'm talking about: https://napkinmath.substack.com/p...annibalize ). Also, a lot of people really like Costco for their warranty. It's less than it used to be, partly because a few people took advantage of it... but they tend to have better return policies than many other places.

I think Costco really caters to moms who just want to buy everything at one store. It has a lot. It's just that you would probably save money if you took more time to shop around deals elsewhere. They do have markdowns on some products now and then, which aren't always bad.

Here's a deal site for Costco specifically: https://costco97.com/

Also, I think this is like the "ad" for Costco - https://www.costco.com/daily-deals.html

You could also do a search on SD for Costco related deals to see what people say. I think sometimes for laptops, people have mentioned extended warranties, maybe with a certain credit card... but always check the fine print before assuming things
It also caters to the cult culture. People that like to think they belong to an exclusive club that gives them great benefits. But if Costco was free, the prices would still be bad. I have a membership as I took advantage of this last time with cashback and coupon and it was a fairly significant MM. I've had several membership stints over the years to take advantage of the few good prices like car batteries and regional liquor deals and occasional inexplicable clearances. I've never actually paid for a membership not would I. The prices are simply terrible compared to groceries and ethnic markets and Amazon/Walmart/target/etc sales prices.

Another place the cult mindset comes in is the belief that Costco fruits, meat and fish are higher grade or freshness. Not true. I've compared them. Their quality is nothing special.

The return policy... same as grocery stores for the most part. A bit better than many stores in terms of length but many stores have 1 month return. Costco does win out in this area however. Extended warranty is a plus but I use my credit cards extended warranty with a long history of success.

Costco is for people that want to buy everything in one trip while putting in little effort and convincing themselves they are getting the best at the best prices. It's a delusion though.

Where does it show the $40 bonus card and $40 off $250 coupon? I just bought the Groupon, went to the link and signed up. I even entered the Visa card to auto renew but there was nothing stating I will receive the bonus $40 card? No email either.

I'm sorry but I have worked membership before at Costco and this is a very good deal. My wife and I are smart shoppers and use Costco for what you can't find elsewhere. $20 for a full year is amazing. Yes you can bring friends in to shop on your membership.

Well shit. I don't see the place to sign up for auto renewal.

when I enter the card info, it disappears when I enter the shopcard info.

never do i see check box or any indication if this is auto renewal.

Help is appreciated
Just by purchasing this membership with a Visa card (Costco US), you agree that your Costco membership fee will automatically renew at the membership price selected. Find more help here: https://www.groupon.com/faq#faqs:content-1036

I can't think of anything I would want to purchase that is $250+.
I never spend that much at one time at Sams or anywhere else.
Is this still a good deal if I have no plan to use to the $40 off?
Think electronics and furniture. I bought my TV on black Friday from Costco a few years ago. It was already the best price on that model and an extra $40 would have been sweet

I broke down and got this. I did not get any confirmation that I was getting any bonus. Groupon just charged $60. Then I got a digital $60 Costco voucher that I put the numbers into the Costco web site and was charged $0. It seemed the Visa card I put in disappeared when I put in the Costco voucher information. I wonder if I can still cancel this membership if I don't like it in the first year? Not happy that I am not being told I am getting the $40 bonus card anywhere.
