Not quite true, it's unlockable after a year & will then work on any network.

What happens after 1500 minutes ? You have to buy a new phone?
you buy more of what you need, I recommend doing some research on how Tracfone works, it's not a good fit for everyone.

Google voice requires separate internet source. All phones are pretty much supported. Apple and android back to at least android 4.4. It also works on tablets! If you have phone number you want to keep forever this is the best way to do it. You can port it (I think it cost $15 now) to google voice then forward your calls. You then get google based spam protection, voicemail with transcripts, email alerts, texts to all your devices, and ability to use on any computer with mic including for voicemail retrieval.. There is even a different kind of call screening where person calling says their name it rings to you and you decide based on the name weather to pick it up or not. leave caller no way to tell if you ignored them. Then their is the Announced call recording feature along with all the standard phone features. Like call forwarding.

Not a tracephone expert but they have to hold your number for a certain amount of days. I think its 90, then they cant reuse it for maybe 90 more. Not sure if its an fcc rule or a law either way they can be fined a lot. Many carriers would allow recovery in the second 90 day period if you push them. Now to transfer the number you would need to be in good active status with most carriers. What you can do is transfer to google voice as noted above and never lose the number again. Then just forward to any new number you get.

They are, most g7 power variants can be bootloader unlocked. You might have to wait sometime after purchase but it looked to work on most. You can also remove branding from most g7 powers even if rooting didnt work. Never tried on tracphone version. Some phones like the oneplus 6t you can delete the right partition with root and its carrier unlocked then. Didn't try on the t-mobile g7 power i bootloader unlocked for my parents. I use bootloader unlock allows you to try to bypass carrier tether restrictions.

Yes, by a large margin on everything but screen. Bigger battery, more efficent, more processing power, better gpu, better connector (usb-c). Many more bands and carrier aggregation. Never had any issues with any t-mobile or at&t sim in g7 power.

"Yes. You may transfer your telephone number from another company to TracFone online. To port in your existing telephone number to your TracFone, the number you are porting must be active with your current service provider."

If you want to save your number forever just port to google voice, you get all the features listed above in my first reply.

One last thing is this was good enough for many games including COD:mobile when i was playing with the one I customized for my parents.
Thanks for answering my question for Nexus 6.

I still have 800 minutes from the phone. I bought in November. Ugh because I use Google voice at home.
Both of mine are paid up for over 2 years (I keep updating phones) with so many minutes they're basically unlimited (I also use wifi/GV).
At least we aren't paying a monthly fee & taxes like so many others.

Does tracfone allow you to move minutes from older phone and keep the older number? I got the HSN moto deal last thanksgiving to park a number, now if I buy this, can I move that number to this phone and keep the minutes in older phone? Will I be able to unlock the older or newer phone 1 year after activation (ie last Nov)? I just want to extend time on the old phone, unlock if possible. Dont need any more minutes or data and it appears cheapest way to do it and keep the number for another year is >$100 in the yearly plan.

Older phone needs to be active for 12 months to unlock so if you move current number and minutes to new phone it won't unlock - unless it's been a year first.

OK, thanks. Looks like the cheapest way to accomplish an unlock and keep the unexpired minutes is using a 30 day card to extend, and then buy a new phone for minutes, move it to the new phone and then rinse and repeat?

That's why many of us have lots of minutes. Isn't getting this phone an upgrade over your current one?

Yes it is.

But, would like the other one unlocked if possible to keep it in car as an emergency phone with a minimal plan from another MVNO.

Gotcha, that's why I have several older still locked TF around the house as wifi devices, didn't want to wait the 12 months to reuse. Most of the time it isn't worth the trouble since phones get out of date so quickly, still usable but slow.

30 bucks for a moto e5 with 1500/1500/1500. I needed a place to park my landline before I ported to GV, but after having this around - like the idea of having a phone not tied to my primary provider in case of emergencies. I have the number forwarded to my GV now, if I find a cheap deal, will extend it by another year. If I can unlock, I will use the e5 for an emergency phone in my car - and let tracfone continue on the new phone.

FYI, a good way to use the old devices is https://alfred.camera/. This is an easy and inexpensive home security camera set-up.

Any thoughts on the Samsung A20 for 149$ with the same bundle but without earbuds - is the Samsung worth the extra 50% premium?

Edit - more like 65% premium

Can I get this w.o activation or anything associated with the service? It's a great phone to use for my Alfred app.
