Previous thread stated expired and I am not sure how to change it. Anyways I got this 12/2019 and it has been great. $300 upfront no taxes of fees comes to $25 a month. Click on multi-month offers to see. This time $4.99 sim is free. I know there are different offers but I liked the service I got with this one.

Normal price now. Keep in mind, if you buy this, there is no refund. Perhaps if you do not open it, but I'm thinking that they will give you a hard time about that!
I live in an area that reception is an issue, so I spoke with a Rep over Chat. Finally, she suggested that the only way for me to try it was to just buy in to the starter plan for a month. If I like it, buy this. Sounded fair enough.
The starter plan was easy. No issues. Setup an account and I like the clarity of the calls and I seem to have better reception than others I have tried. So I pulled the trigger on this.
Setup did not go well. Activation was an issue. I spent hours with chat, then with a tech on the phone. Finally, that worked BUT - only data and text was working, no calls..
This time, it took a few days to get someone who could fix it, but again, it took hours.
I will say though, there is AT&T and then there is AT&T prepaid. Your account has a special login page for AT&T Prepaid and getting help, isn't easy. Even when you are logged in and you click on help, it takes you to a page where it asks you to login to My AT&T but guess what? You don't have My AT&T, you have AT&T Prepaid so the menus are essentially invalid.
Another issue was no matter which card I used, it would not allow me to pay using Paypal. Always returned ERROR! Each error placed a temporary authorization on my cards and two of the cards got triggered for Fraud Alerts. After fixing that hassle, I decided to give it one more try, but without Paypal. I plugged in my card info and it worked the first time.
I'm not sure if it's because of where I live or not, but it's not $300/yr. For me, after tax, it comes out to circa $27.50/mo.
All said, it's finally working well - I think. No issues for several days now. The price is certainly reasonable for 8GB. Download speeds are better than Red Pocket, Ultra or Mint as is voice quality. Voice quality is NICE! No bells or whistles that I know of other than that, oh yeah, except rollover. If you don't use all your data, it accumulates for later use.
BTW, for military personnel, they have a link for you, but don't bother. It's really a front for selling you Veteran's Advantage. They run you through all these gyrations, just to find out, it's the exact same deal as OP's..

Copied from last year's mega thread:
Just in case you encounter the deadlock of robot chatting when activate your account.
call 877-426-0525
Have you already started to activate your number?
answer: yes
Do you have a phone number?
answer: yes (if porting)
Tell them the number you are porting. You will likely have to do it 3 times, as they won't find it in their system.
[edit 10-05-2019]
I had to answer 'no" to having a number eventhough I was porting because if I answered "yes", then after I gave the robo-assistant my "to port" number it would say that I'd have to call customer service and kick me out. Saying "no" would continue as this guide outlines.
[end of edit 10-05-2019]
Is this for a mobile phone?
answer: yes
Do you have the box the device came in?
answer: yes (assuming you have the sim card with the iccid)
Do you have iccid?
answer:yes
They may say that SIM card is already activated.
Do you already have an account?
answer:yes !!!
Then you will be connected to a real person.
Note: if you make a mistake and say you do not already have an account, they will tell you that you need to go get a new SIM from an AT&T store. That is not true. Call back and go through the process again and make sure to say you have an account. The human will help finish the port and activate your account.
Is there any reason to go with prepaid over a MVNO?
Example, for 300/yr you can go with something like redpocket and get unlimited talk/text and 20GB 4G / unlimited data

Correct me if I'm wrong. Isn't AT&T prepaid on a higher priority level than MVNO? In my area redpocket is terrible during day time. AT&T postpaid got 4mbps and redpocket was 190kbps

You are correct!
Had cricket for years and att severely throttled the data speeds in my area. (Not bc of data usage, I never went above .2 gigs for any monthly cycle for the 4 years I was on the plan.
Switched to this plan and it's been sunshine ever since...

I'm guessing this can't be added to already existing prepaid accounts?
The fine print says "$25/month when you prepay $300 for 12 months Online offer. Requires new activation" But I'm sure people have work arounds. Any suggestions?
I've had this plan for a year, and was pretty certain it would still be around at this time a year later. Last year had a 50$ bonus which is still handing around in my account, so it's $250 total to prepay another year. I'd like to find some ATT prepaid card deals to try and drop it another 10% but at this point it's probably not worth it. For 20$ a month, it can't really be beat and with Covid who uses any data anyway. I'm using 100MB a month with one account and 500MB on another account. Frankly, if I could get that 3GB plan again for 15$ a month, I'd drop to that one.

One of the main benefits of ATT/VZ over the cheapies is the ability to use Watches etc. As an add on
