I saw the blendtec at my cousin's place and got impressed. Especially the ease with which it handled batters and nut butters. The usual $50-$100 blenders can handle all the liquidy stuff but they give up when it comes to nuts, lentils and grains.
The only downside to the Blendtec is the noise. It ranges between 95-105 db.
I ended up ordering the Vitamix E310.(Certified Reconditioned available for $289). It does everything that the Blendtec does with a lower noise profile. Ranges between 84 - 104 db.

By the way, decibel scale is logarithmic. In other words, 95 db is twice as loud as 85 db. 105 db is 4 times as loud as 85 db. Even with the Vitamix, I tend to not run it at the highest speeds. Speeds 1-6 are okay.

yeah but they don't actually honor their warranty. My door stop, er blender, is still under warranty but they won't service it

that's really odd. i have an old kitchen aid 5 speed that was 100 bucks and never had to do such a thing.

Well, I'm not sure that's odd. Specially when you throw 2 frozen bananas and frozen berries with no extra liquid.

my 2 cents

Had one of these and they are fantastic.

BUT, if you are going to just make protein shakes, get a Ninja or other brand, single serve cup blender.

Washing this thing was too much vice a single 16 ounce cup and small blade 3 times a day.

Enjoy

I was a big Blendtec fan but the rubber seals around the blade failed on all of my jars (even the replacements) and made a mess of black rubber flakes everywhere, including my smoothie. The last straw was the motor started smoking. Blentec support was hour hold time to speak with someone, so I just took it back to Costco (which I hate to do after several years of use because it feels like I am gaming the system).

My dog never makes a sound, except when the Blentec is on. It is so loud that the starts howling.

they never asked for a picture or a video. Blendtec pretty much told me to take my broken blender and pound sand.

Yeah, their support is pretty bad. The guy at Costco told me the same thing. He said folks are just returning them because getting them replaced by Blendtec was a pain.

So these issues don't happen with a vitamix? Just curious.

Got mine last time and its awesome. I just use my wooden spoon upside down as a tamper and make sure you dont go too deep. Love the dull blade and the jar size

Maybe a vitamix 5200 is a little better overall but its also twice the price

You cannot compare a unit ....the 5200 to the Blendtec. Its 200 dollars and you will need to get a replacement container due to bearing issues after extended use. The blade is fixed into the unit unlike vitamix.

The question you should ask is that if both units were the same price which one would you buy,

for me I got the 5200 for 225 bucks at target new..less 5%...212.50. 50 percent clearance.

So that was easy choice. Would I pay 450 for a new one...no way. would I get a blendtec for the same price of vitamix...no way.

but the blendtec is cheap...I mean 200 is a great deal. There are dozens of reviews between the two. The vitamix does make better smoothies due due to the blade design.

There are many blades you can change with vitamix such as a dry blade. But 200 bucks...if not for the target clearance...I probably have a blendtec.

We love our Blendtec Designer 650 with Wildside jar. Maybe the best purchase ever for our kitchen. We've made thick smoothies and hummous. A super slick deal at $206 with tax.

I bought mine in June. They had a red tag sale directly on the Blendtec site.

I received my Blendtec today from HD and the lid is the smaller latching lid, not the vented gripper lid. Looks like the third party tampers only work with the vented gripper lid. I did see that Blendtec sells the lid for $10 on their website. I'm going to try without the tamper for now.

This and a little xanthan gum is the secret to making a Starbucks Frappuccino at home. If you're someone with an expensive Starbucks habit, this blender is a bargain.
