Not sure how to answer your question directly as I'm not familiar w/ the R9 seris (though Google show me some pics and it looks like a nice glove). However regarding your 10U kid, we (I mean my wife) purchased my 2 boys the 11.5" A850 2 years ago, then 11 and 13. It's too small now (for both of them) for anything but pitching. They are both playing outfield now and could use a bigger glove, but neither of them want a bigger glove since they like their glove. I have a 12.5" glove I bought for coaching and I couldn't make my 15 y/o use 'dad's glove' to play outfield.
2 years later and the gloves are still in great shape. Kids have pitched, played infield and outfield w/ the A850. I love the glove, just wish it was a little bigger. It looks really small on my nearly 6' tall boys.
My advise: Get a good 12 or 12.25" glove that's universal between pitching, IF and OF. He'll break it in and grow into it and love it through High School.
Guess I should not complain about NOT spending $155 bucks on a nice A2000 glove that neither of them will use, but still. Almost too good to pass up. Maybe I need a new glove. LOL

My 7y old went from Wilson A450 (very good first mitt for 5-6yr olds if you play a lot of ball) to the R9. The R9 is a legit leather glove. Very well made and super comfortable after a few outings. Was able to get it on AMZN warehouse for 55$ The Wilson 450-500 will not last. Synthetic product. You will get prob 2-3 seasons out of one..
took both of your advice and combined it together and got this.
We'll see how he likes it. I'm hoping it would last at least couple of seasons. If he is still playing ball by 12-14 years - I'll splurge and get him A2000.

R9 was a bust!!! The glove itself is nice has a nice leather quality to it. But he can't squeeze the glove (small hands) even after I broke it in completely. So, I'm hoping at some point in the future if he decides to play OF this will come handy but for now, I'll be going with A900 or A1000 Pedroia fit.
I've done a ton of research on gloves and the A1000 is pretty close to the A2000, if you have a younger kid and don't want to completely break the bank. My son (12U) has the A1000 and it's been awesome. I had to work on it for a couple weeks, but it's nice quality and has been great for the last 3 seasons.

yeah i agree with you. my main glove has been my a1000 for the past decade plus. i have two a2000s and they're nice gloves but i just like the feel of my a1000 better.
