I had two hero 7 blacks go "bad" on me and was engaged in a 1.5 year fight with them over replacements on and off, only to find out that two out of three Samsung memory cards I bought off of Amazon as FP slick deals were fakes, and actually what caused my cameras to freeze, crash, fail to give me clear files at random. I felt like an idiot. I was so sure it was GoPro's fault.
Amazon gave me refunds for the cards even tho one was over a year old and I threw them in the trash.
Next memory cards I buy will be directly from Best Buy via price matching to Amazon.
First, if you are already a gopro subscriber, they give you an additional discount on the camera. I am not, so I couldn't see what the discount actually was.
When you check out, they break out the subscription cost (49.99) separately from the bundle cost and ask you to acknowledge it. At first, I was confused and thought they were adding this to the total cost, but when I checked out, it wasn't added. I did have to pay tax, and 2-day shipping was free.
Does GoPro always charge a ridiculous amount of sales tax? It seems like they are charging the sales tax on the pre-discount price, which is 449.99 (camera) + 49.99 (subscription).
Good deal but the sales tax issue is a major turn-off and deal breaker. It just seems greedy to me, since they technically can send just the sales tax on the discounted price to local government and keep the difference.

I went on a trip using GoPro 7 and it was a total disaster. The GoPro froze several times when taking videos. I had to pull the battery out each time to reset and lost the footage. Finally ended up using my phone.
I am hoping they fix this issue with the GoPro9.
I had this issue as well but it was very specific to the memory card. The included memory card was a V30 and authentic 64GB. I bought another card on amazon (128GB) that was probably authentic as well but it wasn't V30. I figured the issue was the gopro was writing faster than the card could keep up with. Switched back to my V30 card and it never froze again.

The terms and conditions for this deal are interesting:
"In the event that you cancel your subscription before the end of the initial year term but keep your camera, and in so doing, fall below the threshold for eligibility for this offer, we will reduce any applicable refund owed to you by the full retail price of the camera and reserve the right to charge your payment method for any remaining balance owed to GoPro. There is no free trial period and there will be no pro-rated refunds for cancelled subscriptions"
What does it mean when it comes time to renew? You can't cancel subscription before it ends and your subscription will likely auto-renew...so how do you cancel the 2nd year subscription?
and those schmucks downvoted you in there too, oh well.
I wonder if people did that as they were just frustrated with the gopro 8. Lack of changes and such late release on the media mod. I wanted the front screen but didn't go with dj. Went with the 8 and well. Disappointment. I would hold off to see if they get any of the issues fixed from 7 that carried over to 8.
I would bite if amex offered a deal like last time.
Otherwise sub $150 osmo action for black Friday is my goal price. Or I would get insta360 one R. One R has the ability to edit via app without downloading the vid. Great way to edit videos on the phone and upload directly to google photos.
Now that I've purchased the camera, and have the "subscription" it looks like all of the accessories are at least 30% off, and two of them are 50% off.
They've changed the battery again. It is not compatible with the 8. Looking at the specs, the 8 battery is 1220mah, and the 9 battery is 1750mah, significantly larger. They are claiming at least 30% more runtime. bummed my old accessories won't work but happy that it is at least for a good reason.
Hi, could you tell us what discount the new Hero 9 battery qualifies for?
Thinking of upgrading from my H4 Black/Silver and I read that you pretty much have to use OEM batteries (unlike previous generations).
Given that I do not need the hand grip or magnetic mount, I would much rather get as many additional batteries to get to the same $399 bundle price (which includes one battery), i.e Would rather have x4 batteries (1 with camera + 3 additional) for $391 assuming 30% discount on batteries than x2 batteries + accessories for $399 with the bundle.

So they're saying that you're paying $50 for the subscription and $300 for a $450 camera.. so if you try to cancel the subscription you'll owe them an extra $100 so you've paid $450 total.
If you change your mind and want to return the camera, you're still stuck with the subscription, so you'd only get $300 back.
So if it auto-renews and you're charged $50 for year 2, I would think you could then cancel at the start of year 2, and get almost all of your second $50 back (pro-rated for whatever time you had it.)

That seems to be the best/safest solution.
