Amazon gave me refunds for the cards even tho one was over a year old and I threw them in the trash.
Next memory cards I buy will be directly from Best Buy via price matching to Amazon.
That seems to be the best/safest solution.
First, if you are already a gopro subscriber, they give you an additional discount on the camera. I am not, so I couldn't see what the discount actually was.
When you check out, they break out the subscription cost (49.99) separately from the bundle cost and ask you to acknowledge it. At first, I was confused and thought they were adding this to the total cost, but when I checked out, it wasn't added. I did have to pay tax, and 2-day shipping was free.

Thanks!
If the HERO9 was $400+ by itself like predicted, it's easier to say no it's not worth the difference. If a similar bundle is $400 including the year of subscription, it's more tempting to return the 8 and upgrade to the 9.
*The Costco bundle includes a case which the HERO9 bundle doesn't, but that's not a dealbreaker.
The front screen is nice, and 20mp photos are a big plus... and "30% more battery life" answers my biggest complaint after a week with the HERO8.

Every time I purchase it just takes me back to home page. Been charged on my card three times but no email confirmations! Maybe a glitch? Anybody else having issues?
two out of three Samsung memory cards I bought off of Amazon as FP slick deals were fakes
...
I better go check on all my cards!
Yes, I just tested it, without a battery at all, plugged in via USB to an external battery. It recorded a short video just fine, with a "NO BATT" warning on the screen. In fact, I saw a tutorial video recently for shooting an overnight time lapse, and step 1 was plugging it into an external power source (in that case, even via extension cord into the house). Nice to know the battery isn't actually needed (for long, static shots where you can plug in).
The HERO8 battery is 1,220 mAh. The HERO9 battery is 1,720mAh. A recent deal on a USB battery pack was 20,000 mAh, or enough to charge the new battery over 10x.
I like the GoPro dual charger [gopro.com] so at the end of the day you can charge two batteries separate from your camera.. and it's easy to plug it into a battery pack in your backpack and charge a dead one while you're shooting with the other. I don't know how long it takes to recharge, so conceivably you could still run out of batteries if you had two and were doing nonstop shooting. But extra batteries are only $14 with your GoPro subscription.
For me, the biggest problem is if you're out surfing/diving or something for over an hour. You can't change batteries or do an external power pack there on/in the water.
What would be REALLY cool is if it had wireless charging, and there was a waterproof battery pack that supported that.
In fact, I'm surprised this Camera Media Mod [gopro.com] doesn't include a USB passthrough for charging.
Now, in terms of diving, unless you are using a rebreather you are likely not going to be underwater for a long enough period to fully discharge the battery. I am not certified for rebreathers and I just quickly swap out the battery on my Hero5 while swapping out tanks.
Sure, it's an added step in the process.. but it takes like 30 seconds to take off the case and replace the battery - ignoring the pre-clean and maybe a little more if you are splashing it with a water bottle with fresh water and drying it first.
Just talk strait and come up with solutions - or sales pitches if that's your thing..
EDIT: I guess the answer is yes, based on a search in the forum. https://community.gopro
Good deal but the sales tax issue is a major turn-off and deal breaker. It just seems greedy to me, since they technically can send just the sales tax on the discounted price to local government and keep the difference.

What does Costco do with returned merch, anyway? Sell it used (open box) through other channels?
