I had two hero 7 blacks go "bad" on me and was engaged in a 1.5 year fight with them over replacements on and off, only to find out that two out of three Samsung memory cards I bought off of Amazon as FP slick deals were fakes, and actually what caused my cameras to freeze, crash, fail to give me clear files at random. I felt like an idiot. I was so sure it was GoPro's fault.
Amazon gave me refunds for the cards even tho one was over a year old and I threw them in the trash.
Next memory cards I buy will be directly from Best Buy via price matching to Amazon.
First, if you are already a gopro subscriber, they give you an additional discount on the camera. I am not, so I couldn't see what the discount actually was.
When you check out, they break out the subscription cost (49.99) separately from the bundle cost and ask you to acknowledge it. At first, I was confused and thought they were adding this to the total cost, but when I checked out, it wasn't added. I did have to pay tax, and 2-day shipping was free.

This is in the GoPro terms and conditions. "Current GoPro subscribers not eligible for the offer." I'm a current subscriber and I don't see an additional discount like you mentioned.
In fact, I'm surprised this Camera Media Mod[gopro.com] doesn't include a USB passthrough for charging.
The Media Mod for the Hero 8 had a usb-c port on the back. I can't tell if they removed it for Hero 9 version or not. The description doesn't mention a usb-c port for either version but they both mention the HDMI out port which I actually can't find in the pictures of the Media Mod for the Hero 9. So maybe it's on the bottom and the usb-c port could also have been moved there.
This is like when DJI beat them on releasing the foldable drone. Gopro lost that battle. Now the front lcd that DJI first released. Let's see if it's better
Ahhhhhh, my Hero 8 buddle from Costco just passed the 90 days return policy and I didn't even have chance to really use the 8, now I want the 9.....Anyone one has successful experience returning electronics over 90 days, e.g. 91 days?
Same here. 4 days past 90 days! Hero 8 has been phenomenal otherwise. And I would rather keep the smaller size and lighter camera. For me the only advantage would have been the removable lens, but will see. Hoping not to break the lens on Hero8. I do have a tempered glass protector on it.
I went on a trip using GoPro 7 and it was a total disaster. The GoPro froze several times when taking videos. I had to pull the battery out each time to reset and lost the footage. Finally ended up using my phone.
I am hoping they fix this issue with the GoPro9.
Same thing happens to my GoPro 8 too...just started happening out of nowhere. Super annoying

You should be fine with the tempered glass. As you've said, one advantage of H8 is its size and weight, meaning pocketable compare to the H9.
All GoPro users, do you still use it after the initial new toy factor? I mean how many of us snowboard, surf, etc. Just wondering if this is going to end up in my closet, etc.

It would be nice if GoPro added a feature to test memory cards so that people can find out quickly if the card doesn't work in the GoPro. It probably can be done entirely with a simple firmware change.

The problem is that I bought it for a friend in Europe; and I'm here now. Too much hassle bringing it back and I won't be back in Europe til next September. 🤷🏻 ♂️

That seems to be the best/safest solution.
