I had two hero 7 blacks go "bad" on me and was engaged in a 1.5 year fight with them over replacements on and off, only to find out that two out of three Samsung memory cards I bought off of Amazon as FP slick deals were fakes, and actually what caused my cameras to freeze, crash, fail to give me clear files at random. I felt like an idiot. I was so sure it was GoPro's fault.
Amazon gave me refunds for the cards even tho one was over a year old and I threw them in the trash.
Next memory cards I buy will be directly from Best Buy via price matching to Amazon.
First, if you are already a gopro subscriber, they give you an additional discount on the camera. I am not, so I couldn't see what the discount actually was.
When you check out, they break out the subscription cost (49.99) separately from the bundle cost and ask you to acknowledge it. At first, I was confused and thought they were adding this to the total cost, but when I checked out, it wasn't added. I did have to pay tax, and 2-day shipping was free.

That seems to be the best/safest solution.
Amazon is overrun with fraudulent and counterfeit junk. You can't purchase really anything from them if the goal is authenticity. It's nothing but a flea market with two day shipping.
If you're already a GoPro PLUS subscriber will this extend your subscription with 1 year?
I'm wondering this too. I have the $4.99 monthly plan currently. When I cancelled it, there is no indication that the I now have the $49.99 yearly plan... It seems that current subscribers aren't eligible and also that there's no additional discount as written in text on the product page 🤦

YES would be awesome for that. Quality is amazing on 8 so this will be better.

All GoPro users, do you still use it after the initial new toy factor? I mean how many of us snowboard, surf, etc. Just wondering if this is going to end up in my closet, etc.

So, I think it depends on what you do.... My YI 4k, GP3, GP4, and GP5 are used as needed.
I have used the YI/GP (model depending on years) as an accessary to capture video to wedding / other events while shooting with a dSLR. I either attach it to the hot shoe or the tripod hole depending on the scenario. Since I have the older models I also tend to mount them in different locations to catch other things going on to stich different perspectives in.
It's also fun for pool time, beach, vacation, etc...
But, all of them can go months without use - just like the dozen or so regular cameras many of us have. It's a little less common for me to carry the GP randomly around since the iPhone works very well for video..

Didn't GoPro say the discount for existing subscribers will be $100 off? So just the camera for $350?

The discount for existing subscribers is definitely worse than if you're a new subscriber. So much for "subscriber benefits". No matter how you cut it, you won't get the one-year subscription advertised with the Hero9. I talked to customer service about this yesterday.
Considering how they treat loyal customers like crap, I'm moving to Insta or DJI.
If you're still going to purchase it. Purchase it with a new email account for a new subscription.

It seems like a pretty common sales tactic- They're basically offering a free trial for service, but it happens to be tied to a hardware purchase. DirecTV Now basically did the same thing with buying a Roku or Apple TV device and free service for 3 months.

Agree
I have every Gopro up to 7. They are in my pile of Not used Junk somewhere in the house.
Have to say 9 seems good with all the addtional gadgets. Another way to waste money again
thank goodness I was still in the trial period of my GoPro subscription,
So, I cancelled my first order. Deleted my payment method for GoPro subscription and then deleted my GoPro account. I give you it does leave a bad taste in my mouth that they were screwing over current members. Makes me wonder about how my next upgrade may playout.
So basically I lose two weeks of my Free Trial, but I do get one year now free that I would've bought anyways. Next upgrade I'll probably just go somewhere else.

I better go check on all my cards!
GoPro wants to be a social media company. They care about vloggers, but not motorsports (OBDII), powersports (telemetry support), or drones (Session).
