GoPro.com has GoPro HERO9 Black 5K Action Camera w/ 32GB SD Card + 1 Year GoPro Subscription on sale for $349.98. Shipping is free. Thanks SociableFog138
I had two hero 7 blacks go "bad" on me and was engaged in a 1.5 year fight with them over replacements on and off, only to find out that two out of three Samsung memory cards I bought off of Amazon as FP slick deals were fakes, and actually what caused my cameras to freeze, crash, fail to give me clear files at random. I felt like an idiot. I was so sure it was GoPro's fault.
Amazon gave me refunds for the cards even tho one was over a year old and I threw them in the trash.
Next memory cards I buy will be directly from Best Buy via price matching to Amazon.
That seems to be the best/safest solution.
Just adding two comments.
First, if you are already a gopro subscriber, they give you an additional discount on the camera. I am not, so I couldn't see what the discount actually was.
When you check out, they break out the subscription cost (49.99) separately from the bundle cost and ask you to acknowledge it. At first, I was confused and thought they were adding this to the total cost, but when I checked out, it wasn't added. I did have to pay tax, and 2-day shipping was free.
Glad they brought back the replaceable lens cover. That's the only thing i don't like about the Hero 8.

2 charges from GoPro? Purchased 9 and dual battery charger with subscription combo. Invoice shows 423.02 with tax
Cc shows 373.03
Several hours later see 2nd charge for 49.99
Does GoPro do separate charges? I assume later is for sub?
Gopro doesn't actually overcharge sales tax. You'll be charged when the item ships, and the tax will be calculated based on the total price after discounts. Your shipment confirmation email will reflect the correct sales tax amount.
gopro reply below.. i complained yesterday that my cart showed taxes, tariffs and carrier fees that i didnt get charged tariffs with UPS world delivery service when i bought my Hero8 from them last year from Canada. i asked csr if they had any discount codes with no luck and he would look into my case for me with his team.. lol:
Good day from GoPro! Just a follow up for your case, we have found out that taxes and duties will be included in your order total and that's the reason why it's reflecting in your order cart. It has been separated before but we included it now in the order due to the landed cost.
If you still have questions and concerns, don't hesitate to contact us again via callblack or chat.
Settled it for me! I had a feeling how corrupt GoPro was back when I purchased my Hero 4 Black and they said they shipped it to me yet could not provide any delivery information...Yet I had an order confirmation email from them. Paypal fought for me and I got my money back. Now they are scamming people by collecting taxes they don't deserve. The Hero 9 might be a nice camera but IF I ever purchased one it would be from a store...NOT directly from them!!!
When I actually got charged it was less than they estimated by $8. I think they end up adjusting the tax later. Not sure why.
Great deal; but I wanted to play with my Discover credit card and get the error message: The card you entered is not a card type accepted in this country.
- The touch screen is very laggy and not responsive to frustration.
- In my recording room, I have the honeywell shop LED, and the camera is showing vertical lines that goes up slowly "not sure if this is called flickering". This did not happen with my Osmo Action or Osmo Pocket!
- SD card is not easily accessible.
- I have to pray to God for few minutes before the connection between the app and the camera is successful.
- Battery life is very awful, I thought they upgraded it! Osmo Action has double the battery life!

I wanted to love it, but I decided to return it.
Since you also have the Osmo how does the GP9 front screen compare? Also, I looked back in this thread and could not find any other postings from you. Do you use other GoPro models or are the Osmo's the baseline you went against? I ask because I primarily use GoPro and YI, but I have had a few cheaper Chinese knockoffs as well as seeing the Sony action camera in action. Also, a few reviewers placed the GP9 vs. the One & Osmo and the GP9 seemed to come up on top.
From what I remember the DJI front screen was also reported as laggy (at least in the beginning as I have not been following FW updates..) and I was curious to hear your comparison.
Also, a few honest reviewers did report that the front screen was laggy and showed it on camera. It seemed very similar to the early DJI release, but it really did not seem horrible for setting a pose. Fast action is definitely not optimal though.
I did see one review where the light "streaks" were more apparent on the GP9. He blamed it on oil on the lens, but it also sounds like your flickering is different and from the oscillation of the LED bulb itself somehow manifesting itself in the sensor.
Finally, did they give you a lot of trouble on the return?
Does GoPro always charge a ridiculous amount of sales tax? It seems like they are charging the sales tax on the pre-discount price, which is 449.99 (camera) + 49.99 (subscription).
Good deal but the sales tax issue is a major turn-off and deal breaker. It just seems greedy to me, since they technically can send just the sales tax on the discounted price to local government and keep the difference.
It depends on how the company issues the discount as a cut in the price versus a rebate in the price. Costco does the same thing on their purchases charging tax on the original price. I believe GoPro lists the discount as a rebate not as a price change.
Can I know what's the deal(discount) here ? I see 9 price as 350$ with 1 year subscription. Is there a discount on top of it? I'm a pro subscriber already, do I get discounts on top of it?(I don't see discount when I login to my account).
Thanks in advance
Since you also have the Osmo how does the GP9 front screen compare? ...
It's important to point out that the Osmo Action is a 2019 product versus the GoPro 9 in 2020
I like the GP9 front screen "near the lens" more than the Osmo, but I don't need it in my setup. The back screen "the bigger one" is much better in Osmos versus GP9. In Osmos Action, it is like a cell phone touch screen, very smooth. With GP9, you have to hit a target multiple times for the screen to respond. It is almost impossible to scroll down a menu with the GP9 unless you continue trying multiple times and pray you are not opening another menu that you don't need.
Osmo Action and Pocket are my current baseline.
GP9 could come up on top in the reviews due to slightly better quality. Yet, there are the bugs that I experienced makes me want to keep the Osmo.
The light streaks never happened with any of my Osmo cameras or cell phone cameras. Same LEDs. I went through different settings in the GP9 trying to fix it but no resolution. The only thing that might work is to change the refresh from 60 to 50, but I don't want to go out of standard for no fault of my own.
GP is known to have a painless return process.
I will clean the lens from any oil, and will contact the support for a resolution. I guess I can live with the stupid screen since you don't need to change the settings that much, and can live with the short battery life since I got two batteries and an external charger. If no resolution for the streaks, I will return it and wait for a new Osmos product.

EDIT: I guess the answer is yes, based on a search in the forum. https://community.gopro.com/t5/fo...=sales+tax [gopro.com]

What accessories would you recommend for a hiker/backpacker and an occasional cyclist.
Thank you.
