New GoPro 9 just came out.
Deal only for this week is $50 off the retail price. Includes 1 year of their subscription unlimited cloud storage, free camera replacement, and 50% off accessories. Also includes a 32gb sd card. This is actually a really good deal considering the camera replacement insurance alone is another $50.

For $50 more they also have a bundle that includes several accessories.
The major changes from the Hero 8 are a front-facing screen (like the DJI), image stabilization now includes horizon stabilization, and it can record up to 5k video (vs. 4k)
I just ordered one and will report back on the real differences.

Amazon gave me refunds for the cards even tho one was over a year old and I threw them in the trash.
Next memory cards I buy will be directly from Best Buy via price matching to Amazon.
That seems to be the best/safest solution.
First, if you are already a gopro subscriber, they give you an additional discount on the camera. I am not, so I couldn't see what the discount actually was.
When you check out, they break out the subscription cost (49.99) separately from the bundle cost and ask you to acknowledge it. At first, I was confused and thought they were adding this to the total cost, but when I checked out, it wasn't added. I did have to pay tax, and 2-day shipping was free.

Several hours later see 2nd charge for 49.99
Does GoPro do separate charges? I assume later is for sub?
Good day from GoPro! Just a follow up for your case, we have found out that taxes and duties will be included in your order total and that's the reason why it's reflecting in your order cart. It has been separated before but we included it now in the order due to the landed cost.
If you still have questions and concerns, don't hesitate to contact us again via callblack or chat.
Many Thanks,

- The touch screen is very laggy and not responsive to frustration.
- In my recording room, I have the honeywell shop LED, and the camera is showing vertical lines that goes up slowly "not sure if this is called flickering". This did not happen with my Osmo Action or Osmo Pocket!
- SD card is not easily accessible.
- I have to pray to God for few minutes before the connection between the app and the camera is successful.
- Battery life is very awful, I thought they upgraded it! Osmo Action has double the battery life!
I wanted to love it, but I decided to return it.

From what I remember the DJI front screen was also reported as laggy (at least in the beginning as I have not been following FW updates..) and I was curious to hear your comparison.
Also, a few honest reviewers did report that the front screen was laggy and showed it on camera. It seemed very similar to the early DJI release, but it really did not seem horrible for setting a pose. Fast action is definitely not optimal though.
I did see one review where the light "streaks" were more apparent on the GP9. He blamed it on oil on the lens, but it also sounds like your flickering is different and from the oscillation of the LED bulb itself somehow manifesting itself in the sensor.
Finally, did they give you a lot of trouble on the return?
EDIT: I guess the answer is yes, based on a search in the forum. https://community.gopro.com/t5/fo...=sales+tax [gopro.com]
Good deal but the sales tax issue is a major turn-off and deal breaker. It just seems greedy to me, since they technically can send just the sales tax on the discounted price to local government and keep the difference.
Thanks in advance
What accessories would you recommend for a hiker/backpacker and an occasional cyclist.
Thank you.

I like the GP9 front screen "near the lens" more than the Osmo, but I don't need it in my setup. The back screen "the bigger one" is much better in Osmos versus GP9. In Osmos Action, it is like a cell phone touch screen, very smooth. With GP9, you have to hit a target multiple times for the screen to respond. It is almost impossible to scroll down a menu with the GP9 unless you continue trying multiple times and pray you are not opening another menu that you don't need.
Osmo Action and Pocket are my current baseline.
GP9 could come up on top in the reviews due to slightly better quality. Yet, there are the bugs that I experienced makes me want to keep the Osmo.
The light streaks never happened with any of my Osmo cameras or cell phone cameras. Same LEDs. I went through different settings in the GP9 trying to fix it but no resolution. The only thing that might work is to change the refresh from 60 to 50, but I don't want to go out of standard for no fault of my own.
GP is known to have a painless return process.
I will clean the lens from any oil, and will contact the support for a resolution. I guess I can live with the stupid screen since you don't need to change the settings that much, and can live with the short battery life since I got two batteries and an external charger. If no resolution for the streaks, I will return it and wait for a new Osmos product.
