New GoPro 9 just came out.
Deal only for this week is $50 off the retail price. Includes 1 year of their subscription unlimited cloud storage, free camera replacement, and 50% off accessories. Also includes a 32gb sd card. This is actually a really good deal considering the camera replacement insurance alone is another $50.

For $50 more they also have a bundle that includes several accessories.
The major changes from the Hero 8 are a front-facing screen (like the DJI), image stabilization now includes horizon stabilization, and it can record up to 5k video (vs. 4k)
I just ordered one and will report back on the real differences.

Amazon gave me refunds for the cards even tho one was over a year old and I threw them in the trash.
Next memory cards I buy will be directly from Best Buy via price matching to Amazon.
That seems to be the best/safest solution.
First, if you are already a gopro subscriber, they give you an additional discount on the camera. I am not, so I couldn't see what the discount actually was.
When you check out, they break out the subscription cost (49.99) separately from the bundle cost and ask you to acknowledge it. At first, I was confused and thought they were adding this to the total cost, but when I checked out, it wasn't added. I did have to pay tax, and 2-day shipping was free.

I had one GoPro 8 order that the shipper shows undelivered. They still fought tooth and nail before sending a replacement.
The first negative to me is the darn screen lag when trying to select options. I feel like I need to click, click, click before it finally registers the click and finally opens what I am trying to access.
It's not a deal breaker I guess.. but I was pretty annoyed that I needed to pull my phone out and use the app to get started. What if I was the small percentage of people that did not have a smart phone or did not want them logging each and every gopro that is coming online and when/where.
I have no doubt that the GPS was enabled at time of "activation".

I am hoping they fix this issue with the GoPro9.
I don't know why they are so picky about cards.
