List price isn't realistic, it's never been higher than $117 average $77.89. Looks like it was $60 in April. But if you need it now you could do worse I suppose

Irwin sets come on sale regular enough and for the average homeowner and DIY person, this China made set is a decent entry level set and price for a variety.

That said, if you want and/or need quality, you are going to pay for it.... Here is an adequate comparison [youtube.com] of the Irwin Groovelock vs the comparable style Knipex Cobra pliers.

i bought this set a year ago at 65 dollars, i think as others have mentioned it does OK for typical homeowner use.. i use the 3 groovelock pliers the most out of this set. the wire cutters on this was rough to open/close and didn't seem that sharp when trying to cut wire... i think it's a good set for occasional use, but anything else you'd probably want to buy better ones seperately as needed

Paid $60 March 4th. They're pretty nice, not outstanding, I'd pay $70 if I didn't want to wait.

I would argue that the average homeowner isn't going to need such a large set. For me, these large sets are nice because I do not touch them so they stay complete. When I can't find one of my good ones I switch off to a budget one. It will works but it's really a great motivator to keep me looking.

My Irwin tools tough are very old and they've held up nicely. I'm not sure what's wrong with them. Is it just because some tools are better? I can't keep track of all the tools that have had a dropped in quality.

I picked up this set 2 years ago for around 50, I work in apartment maintenance and do a bit of remodeling on the side, I have to say that this set is invaluable and is always in my truck along with a few m12 tools, makes replacing outlets, light fixtures, taking apart toilets, and many other jobs much easier. These are NOT knipex quality but who really cares for most jobs. After over 2 years of use they barely have any scratches, the only tool that was damaged were the wire cutters because I accidental cut into a hot wire and it sparked and burned/melted part of the blades(still usable though). I would agree that its a bit overkill for an average homeowner but its so convenient to have all those tools in an easy to use roll up case.

Great comparison. It's a bit troubling that the teeth on the Irwins became rolled over and broke off.

I guess this is not a bad deal I suppose @ $8.75 per tool. I have half of these tools already and they are decent tools as compared to other big box off the shelf tool brands. I'm a casual use person so I'm not using them every day, more of a weekend warrior or otherwise as needed kinda role. This would be a nice set for electrical work and some light plumbing jobs, and a few other jobs around the house. I'm not sure I would buy the entire set versus only buying what I need but it depends if you don't have any of them or it may depend on the quality of tools that you already have. If you're just wanting the slip joint pliers (groove lock ones) this is a really good deal as the standalone pack of 3 are around 50 bucks at Lowes. If you want basic slip joint pliers Lowes has a 3 pack for 23 bucks. The handles on all of these tools are very comfortable to use as well...for what it's worth.

I was thinking "wouldnt it be cheaper just to buy these in smaller sets" knowing that Irwin is a cheaper brand.. yeah I checked CCC too, it averages $78 so its technically a sale but not by that much. Still $10 is $10.

I wish OP's would be more honest.. maybe they dont know CCC exist?

This is a scAmazon "deal" meaning that price is way overinflated. Nobody would pay $150 for a set of Irwin pliers if they had any sense.
