Yes, tiny text looks poorer due to the lower resolution and noticeable coming from a s8 through s20. Make sure you are happy with such a screen.

I've been working on a write-up, which I just finalized (no guarantees that this information is fully accurate):
- Before 09/30/2020, obtain a Type 3 Insider Hookup code, which will result in a virtual prepaid card worth $200
- Starting 09/25/2020 12 am PDT, purchase the Samsung Galaxy S20 FE [t-mobile.com] using T-Mobile's Equipment Installation Plan (EIP)
- The phone will be released on 10/02/2020, and you need the phone's IMEI in order to fully claim the Hookup code, which will expire on 09/30/2020. However, you will be able to use your Hookup code as long as the phone purchase is made within the promo period, which ends on 09/30/2020. You have 30 days from the phone purchase date to redeem the Hookup code
- Once the phone is delivered, go to https://insider.t-mobile.com [t-mobile.com] and follow the instructions, which include entering the Hookup code and the phone's IMEI
- To send in your trade-in device, go to T-Mobile.com's Account Order Status page to print a shipping label; you have 30 days to send in your device
- You should receive the $200 virtual prepaid card within 6 to 8 weeks

Who knows what sort of deal we'll see on the next gen Pixel.
My 2016 Pixel XL 1st gen still takes amazing pictures and is running Android 10 (admittedly no longer receiving patches past this). My 2017 S8 is on Android 9, and was demoted to a quarterly security patch schedule... if I'm lucky (current patch is from June); this is all a choice made and stated by Samsung to limit the number of supported "major" upgrades. I have an S9 getting newer updates but my long-term goal is to get all my primary phones onto the Pixel ecosystem.
For someone in the Samsung ecosystem today this could be a no-brainer but I'd be wary of taking anyone out of the Pixel ecosystem and onto a Samsung, especially given the heavily discounted Pixel prices available in the Pixel a-series.
