Based on the information from this thread and another community, I created a guide so that more people can hopefully navigate this deal easier and so questions won't be continuously repeated.

Because this will be a living document, I created a Google Doc for ease of updates: https://docs.google.com/document/...sp=sharing

Note: I am not a T-Mobile employee and this is my first-time doing a trade-in with a Hookup code, so I am learning alongside most people here; thus, my guide may not be fully accurate. Feel free to make suggestions for corrections if you notice any mistakes or parts that lack clarity. And if you found my guide helpful, please post a response here just so I know and will continue doing these. Thank you.

I hope this helps,
Tofu Vic

Since this involves a trade-in, just want to remind folks that you can trade-in in person at a T-mobile corporate location and by doing so, avoid any surprises from mailing in your device

Starting 9/25 get a Galaxy S20 FE 5G for just $200 over 24 months via bill credits when you trade in an eligible device:

Apple: iPhone 11, XS Series, XR, X, 8 Series, iPhone 7 series
Samsung: Galaxy S10 series, Galaxy Note10 series, Galaxy S9 series, Galaxy Note9, Galaxy S8 series, Galaxy Note8, Galaxy S7 series
Google: Pixel 4/4XL, Pixel 3A/3AXL, 3/3XL
OnePlus: 8, 8 Pro, 7T Pro McLaren, 7T, 7, 7 Pro, 6, 6T
LG: V60 ThinQ, G8 ThinQ, G7 ThinQ, V50 ThinQ, V40 ThinQ

Or get one free via bill credits when you add a line.

THIS STACKS WITH THE $200 HOOKUP CODE! Remember, only one Insider Hookup code per account, whether it's the 20% or the $200. See here for details on that promo. Please do not ask for hookup codes in this post.

Please note: This WILL NOT stack with the free line. The free line ends 9/24, and this phone promo begins 9/25. There is NO WAY to get this phone for free using the free line. Please don't bother support trying to do it.

https://www.t-mobile.com/cell-pho...-s20-fe-5g

Click the magenta text at the top of the page to see the offer for $500 off. Must be logged in to see the offer. To see the "free with add a line" offer, open in incognito. Please note the $500 off page currently says "when you add a line and trade in" but the adding a line part is a typo and not necessary.

Talk to agent and be clear that you don't want to trade-in the device that is currently on line, instead you'll be trading a spare S7 from carrier X. I did mine yesterday.
If you make order by CS then I have to pay $20 upgrade fee. Where as online its free.

Alternatively, you can remove the SIM and put it on S7 and turn-on S7, make a call and you'll see that S7 on the line, you complete order and switch SIM back.

I don't agree, I bought an iPhone 11 2 months ago, trade-in my iPhone 6. Used the 11 for a month and didn't like it, so I paid it off and able to unlock the phone, I am selling the 11 and still getting my 24-month credits.
I second that. In your montly bill it shows your device balance, your device eip payment and your credit.
For example after 2 months your balance is ($500- XXX).
and you decide to pay off or pay 99% of the balance.
In the 3rd month, the bill shows the balance is $0.00 (if you payoff) or $5 (paid 99%), your payment amount ($500/24) and your credit - ($500/24).
This time if you request UNLOCK you will be approved if your balance is $0 or denied if your balance is $5.
The 4th month bill is the same as 3rd and so on.
If you leave TMO, the final bill will asking you pay the balance $0 or $5. Because you will have no bill from TMO so you will lost all your credit.

If you let the CS that you are unable to accomplish what you want to do using the website (which in this case, is clearly the case), then they will waive the fee. If they don't automatically waive it, ask with the reason above.

I've heard of other folks getting the fee waived regardless, just complaining that the website is down/broken. (apparently the website isn't very stable, so it's a common and valid complaint).

Ordered via phone and they waived $20 upgrade. But they said I can't trade in in store. Should I reorder?

That is what I am trying to do. My phone has a tiny small fracture (1/4 inch) on one edge. You can't see it unless you hold up to light or run your fingernail along edge. Pretty sure in store it will be accept but by mail I have heard they scrutinize. Checked to get a s8 screen replaced and it's $90. Not sure which I should do, pay $90 or hope it doesn't get rejected as is.

You don't even have to wait 40 days to pay it off, I usually pay off my phones within a week of receipt. Normally you have to wait the 40 days but you can request earlier and some customer rep might unlock it for you. I personally had 2 phones unlocked immediately before paying them off a couple months ago. It might help if you've been with T-Mobile for a long time. Of course to get all the EIP credits you will have to wait the 24 months.
Thanks for confirming. People give so much misinformation but glad you cleared it up for me.

Yes. Pay off the phone early. Request unlock to give away the phone to family member. Staying with T-mobile to get the 24 bill credits. Been with T-mobile for over 10 years. Not going anywhere.
