Is this a good computer for kids to play minecraft on?
It will be ok, the integrated graphics will just about work if draw distance is reduced. However this is a great computer for taking a gaming card as an upgrade. Something like an nvidia 1650 *super* would make this great for Minecraft and gaming new titles on medium settings.
I like the 16gb ram and ssd but since the cpu is 6-7 years old I'm wondering how long the motherboard, power supply, and other components have been in use. I've gotten 8-10 years out of a lot computers so these could definitely have some life left in them.

I'm with you. This seems steep when the motherboard and PSU are going to start failing soon. I mean, the CPU is great for gaming still, but that's of little use if the motherboard fails.
Is the power supply ATX? If not, how strong is it?
Looks like 280 watts LINK[lenovo.com]. I don't know if it's ATX (and therefore easily replaceable) but at that point the time and cost investment makes a setup like this make little sense.
So a bus-powered (i.e. no 6 pin power connector) card should be fine. Something like a GTX 1650, or a used GTX 1050 or GTX 1050Ti or GTX 950. (make sure it's bus powered)

You'll be getting better than 50% more performance plus easier path to upgrade down the line.
Shoot for the same price in used components you could build a better system.
