Actually... only N99 masks work for covid... for anyone that cares
I don't think you understand how the numbers work, N99 is still a 1% chance of infection. You're thinking of N100s...That's also if you wear air tight goggles.

Yes... ur right. N100 w/ swim goggles, then ur all set...
And? Did you read it?
Did you read my what I said?
You said "Niosh only test and certify the material used in the mask. They don't do any testing about the fit."
There are a number of fit tests specified in the document. They even list the fees that they charge for conducting the tests. Seriously, what the hell.

Anyway, these are OOS.
Page 41, Section 5: Respirator Tests for an Air-Purifying Filtering Facepiece Respirator
"0005 and 0067 fit testing is not performed on Filtering Facepiece Respirators except where in the view
of NIOSH the respirator suspension is a novel design."
So basically, you can get your mask N95 approved without fit testing as long as you don't use an unusual design for the straps.
Anyone here thinks we will be still forced to wear mask next year this time? I thought it was going to be 2 months shutdown, figure out that our hospitals don't get packed and open safely. There is no end in sight with this fever scare which can be lethal for few in the society.
Partially correct the only ones that work are n95s or respirators
The only ones that work... In what direction? To protect the wearer of the mask or to protect the people around the wearer of the mask?
For the first case, you'd be mostly correct to say that n95 is the minimum for effective protection. For the second case, any barrier to mitigate aerosol and breath exposure to those around you, basically any mouth/face covering will suffice.
We're well over 8 months into this pandemic. The better part of a year... The fact that people still can't figure out the different use cases for the various types of masks, or even how to PROPERLY fit a mask onto their face, is frustrating for those of us who have properly educated ourselves.
Those have an exhalation valve, so a lot of places (like hospitals and airlines) won't accept them unless you put something over them. Same as an elastomeric reusable respirator.
Yes but they ship them with a cover to close the exhalation valve for those circumstances. So yeah that no longer an issue.
