I'm starting to buy what I need for a Zen3 mini-ITX build. I just got the Asus ROG X570 Strix ITX.
Is DDR4 3200 fast enough next generation (zen3 or Intel gen11) PC gaming? I would have gotten it last year with zen2. But when Zen3 I saw some videos that faster RAM benefit Zen3 even more, but I saw DDR 4000 and it's really expensive! Almost 2x the price of DDR4 3200!
Is it worth it? Or stick with 3200?
I don't plan on overclocking as I said. But I do want the simple, plug it in, boot it up, and get better performance experience. Don't want to mess with non-factory settings and trial and error to find the best and stable custom BIOS settings.
I'm aiming to complete the build with 5900X or 5950X, 32GB or 64GB RAM. Already have the Sliger SM580 case and NZXT Kraken Z63 with Noctua fans, and 700 watts SFX PSU from Corsair. RAM, GPU, and CPU is next. GPU is going to be between Ampere or RDNA2, waiting for RDNA2 announcements, benchmarks, and review to finalize.
So for this build is DDR 3200 going to cut it? (32GB DDR 4000 is like $300!)
For anyone who isn't interested in manually tightening timings and adjusting voltages, a 3600MHz XMP kit like this one or a high-quality 3200MHz kit is the obvious choice. 3600MHz is the clearly defined limit of easy performance gains from memory frequency on Ryzen... Users will likely see far greater performance gains from buying a trusted 3600MHz CL16 kit and following the Ryzen DRAM Calculator's recommendations than they would from trying to run a higher-frequency kit

If you don't overclock memory just buy the default speed, I think it's 2133 because that is what it will run at anyhow.

Overclocking the RAM should be pretty simple- press the key to go into the BIOS while starting up your computer and enable the DOCP (Direct Overclock Profile) for your RAM. Save and exit the BIOS and you should be good. When you are back to your desktop you can press Ctrl + Shift + Esc to pull up the Task Manager, then click on the Performance tab, and click "Memory" on the left. It should tell you at the bottom (beneath the graphs) what speed your RAM is running. If it's not running at the right speed you will have to do more research, but it works for most people right off. Ryzen chips benefit quite a bit from higher RAM speed (less so for Intel), so it's worth it to see if you can spend a few minutes bumping it up.
