Walmart [walmart.com]has the Kidkraft Castlewood Wooden Play Set on sale for $799. It was $999 last week, and the original price on it was around $1400 (MSRP was like $1700, I think). Regardless, this is the lowest it's been since this time last year, and it's the lowest I've seen it go. So if you're in the market for a swingset, this seems like a decent value.
If you purchase something through a post on our site, Slickdeals may get a small share of the sale.

I can't emphasize this enough everyone...the tube slide is a fan favorite for the kiddos and an absolute pain in the butt to put together. I still have a scar on my thumb.

Pro Tip, zip ties. Zip tie several of the hole alignments together to keep the tube from shifting so much as you assemble. Took about 2 hours to connect three pieces together. Then tried zip ties...20 minutes for the last 2 pieces.
We bought this set last year at this price and are very happy with it. We had it professionally installed since all the reviews were about how difficult it was to put together. It was worth it because the kids are on it constantly and I'm really happy with the quality of the set. Tube slide does seem to attract spiders though, so be aware you'll be clearing that out regularly during the summer.
As a former kid, this one with the tube slide is better.

Does anyone have any input on the durability with harsh north east winters? Might buy and apply water seal.

Also would like to know how this would handle northeast weather - snow freezing and then the usual hot summers.

Its fine for 3 years or so. The alternative option is $2500 for superior play which lasts 10 years

Anybody have the overall dimensions? Website just gives dimensions of each box, but not the built product.

This version of the Kidkraft tube slide is the most difficult, compared to their other models. The bolts go through both the clamp rings and the tube section at the same time, versus the other models, where the clamp rings get clamped on separately, after the tube slide is complete and installed.

The best method is to attach the opening (Flange Assembly) to the playset first. Then, assemble the rest of the tube slide on the ground, this makes it MUCH easier access to all of the bolts, nuts and holes. Lastly, attach your assembled tube slide to the Flange Assembly.

Got ours yesterday, everything minus the tube slide portion took about 8 hours today. That was a little rough. Roof was interesting getting on by myself haha fml. Definitely some spots could use improving but the price is pretty good for what you get.

Instructions that are included are pretty detailed, just take your time and were in box 1. When attaching the 4 sides, one side was not pre-drilled which had me second guessing things but wasn't too big of a deal. We have a big ground level covered porch where I set out all of the lumber. That will definitely help with organization. I have not run into being short on hardware, they seem to send quite a few spares but obviously not 100% done.

I live in the Chicago region where we get harsh weather as well and it's been holding up just fine. 40 below, high winds, scorching summers and nothing has happened. I never even re-sealed or re-stained it like I should have and is just now starting to fade a bit.I paid $850 from Costco at that time and considered it a great deal at $800 it's a no brainer if your in the market for a playset.

Manufacturer's website recommend a safety zone of 28 ft 8 in by 28 feet to accommodate the swing/slide space and landing area.

Do you need to build a rubber mulch flooring for this set? or it it going to be just fine on the grasses. We also have motored irrigation head around the area where this is going to be installed, is constantly get water OK for this thing?

Can I use it without the swing set extension? Just the tower with the slides?

If you can help me figure out this tube slide, you will be my hero. Putting the wood parts together was no problem. The tube slide, though. Ugh. So the little rings that go around the outside...there are three holes each and you put two of them together--SIX HOLES. But most of our tubes have SEVEN holes. Are we just supposed to ignore a set of holes?? I don't get it...
