TP-Link Archer AX50
The best Wi-Fi router
In our tests the TP-Link Archer AX50 created a speedy, responsive network even from across a medium house. You have to spend a lot more on a router—or a mesh kit if you have a very large home—to get anything even a little better. It's our first WI-Fi 6 (802.11ax) router pick.

The TP-Link Archer AX50 is reasonably priced, yet it can handle a growing selection of laptops and smart devices while surpassing the performance of routers that cost twice as much. It's generally speedy and able to reach long range, it has little lag even when the network is busy, and it's a great choice if you have a high-performance internet service plan. It's compatible with Wi-Fi 6, the latest wireless standard, and it comes with built-in security in the form of a lifetime subscription to updates.

TP-Link Archer AX20
If our main pick is unavailable
The Archer AX20 offers fewer features than our pick for a slightly lower price, but in most cases it can keep up in throughput, responsiveness, and ease of setup.

If our pick is out of stock or its price is more than $30 higher, you should consider the TP-Link Archer AX20 instead. The AX20 looks like the AX50 and offers a strong, responsive network that's nearly as good, especially if your house isn't larger than our 2,300-square-foot-test home. But it's not quite as fast at longer ranges, and TP-Link sacrifices a few advanced features and settings in its administration interface to meet the lower price

OTHER THINGS TO NOTE:

1. Donknows has a review on the AX3000 (Archer AX 50) this has thoroughly been discredited on this thread.

Quote from PeteyTheStriker :
As was mentioned by me and a few others, that DONGKNOWS review is poorly done. It is not an apples to apples comparison, he used a router with a brand new firmware comparing to an identical router with firmware over 6 months old which had major problems just like any other router around that time. It takes time to work out the bugs and TP-Link, Netgear, Asus to name a few all put out routers with bugged performance with their first set of Wifi 6 routers. So yeah..... Important to make apples to apples instead of reading something without understanding the testing. If he did it the correct way he would have had both side by side on the same firmware. The routers are identical outside USB 3.0 port and Homecare included on one, so you will get identical performance results with the same firmware.

2. CAT7, a CAT 6 or CAT5e cable is needed for gigabit Ethernet. Most cables made for the last 10 years are already 5e, so just saying that cables are usually never a bottleneck.

I really need a new router but none of my devices uses wifi 6 is there an advantage to getting a wifi 6 router for ac devices?

Do the AX20 and C4000 have bands other than 2.3 GHz?
2.3GHz is not a a band routers use, they are actually 2.4GHz and 5GHz for these routers. Yes both routers have multiple bands. The 2.4GHz is the older standard but it sends a signal further out, but is vastly slower compared to 5GHz which has a shorter signal but way faster speeds.

Some reviewers listed passive gains on the 2.4GHz but besides that it will work just like if you had a wifi 5 router. Almost all new high end phones come with AX built in as well as new computer motherboards and new computers. So even if you dont currently you will start seeing them enter your ecosystem shortly, so why not buy something that you will take advantage of for a few years compared to having to swap out the router in another year. Also for existing gear AX cards are pretty cheap so you can upgrade existing desktops and laptops for as little as $20.

Big disclaimer sometime soon as early as the beginning of next year we should start seeing Wifi 6E routers which is a whole new standard using 6Ghz bands, so that will be the next big step. If your not in a rush might be worth wild to wait. Existing wifi 6 routers will not be able to take advantage of the new Wifi 6E as its all new hardware.

For a good explanation of routers and what features would benefit different situations check this link. TheIr testing is very robust and I've found their recommendations to be excellent.

This should answer a lot of the questions being asked here.

It drops devices and sometime reboot the whole 2.4 GHz band. Frankly, my next upgrade will be a mesh wifi-6 . I am waiting for the black friday deal for them. Another thing to note for the wifi-home-automators, if you don't want your love ones to pull their hair from wifi dropping, make sure they are using the 5 GHz Smilie.
You have the router on default settings, if you change the setting for IP from the standard 2 hour renewal you wouldn't have this issue. Don't blame the router for bad default settings when you don't know what the issue is. I have this router and it's been amazing in range and speed.

6e router are out already and it will be awhile before the price drops for wifi 6. I'm tired of seeing this response when people aren't even caught up to wifi6. Why get something that people will not benefit from?

This is a tough one cause the C4000 was and is a great wifi 5 router, and yes it does have MU-MIMO but more importantly its triband, which gives it an edge just cause of that alone.

Unfortunately the AX20 is better in a couple other ways, one its a quad core processor. The better the CPU the more capable the router is, and the C4000 is a dual core. The other thing the AX20 has going for it is OFDMA which is a technology which is actually what is great and needed for when you have tons of low band width devices such as IOT devices using bandwidth at home. At least thats the marketing hype, but still getting worked out.

Also you mentioned the AX20 as not having MU-MIMO that would be incorrect it does have it, MU-MIMO is a standard technology introduced with the AX wifi 6 standard. I am not sure why its not listed on the product pages on some retailers, but its clearly listed on the TP-Link website. Linking it below:

https://www.tp-link.com/sg/home-n...cher-ax20/

Overall I still would pick the AX20-AX1800 cause its more future proof as the technology matures further.
C4000 is a quad core processor:
https://www.tp-link.com/au/home-n...her-c4000/

I grabbed one back in march during a walmart mixup and swapped out an Asus bluecave and it has no problem keeping up with dozens of devices. Max wireless throughput I've seen was in the 700Mbps range in the same room. Otherwise it's 450-600 within a couple rooms away, range is much improved over the asus.

The first WIFI 6E router announced was an Asus and it is not out yet, it will be out in December of this year, but good luck getting it, if its like the X89 it will be impossible to find for the first few months.

Its being mentioned so people are aware of it, cause if you have the money, then you can afford to get the best, yes its not for everyone, does not mean the information should not be shared.

Costco lists it as a dual core, there have been multiple versions of it. Or Costco description is just wrong, which does happen.

The one the person linked states dual core.

I just noticed on the tp link site if you compare it to other routers it shows dual core listed there too but everything else says quad. I just logged into the router and it def is showing 4 cores under advanced/performance.

Difference between this and the AX1500? And is it worth more money to get this instead?

And has this been the lowest price? If not maybe wait BF?

i bought 2 of these to replace my old asus routers i set up in a mesh. but these tp link routers dont seem to have mesh.
and every few days i have to restart them for the upload speeds to be normal. they drop to .01mb/s
2ghz wont pass 30mb/s when my old 5 year old router delivered 110mb/s on 2ghz
5ghz delivers my max speed but for some reason videos lag and buffer.
my chromecast cant connect to it no matter what i do
set up was annoying
range is terrible, not near whats listed.
tp-link doesnt have a way to use mulitple routers in a mesh setup like my last routers (asus) did. major disappointment.

TLDR: i will be replacing these with a google mesh system + a gigabit switch. i hear it just works without headaches.
i dont know how this router got good reviews

What setting should one change the renewal interval to? Google isn't really helping me out....
