TP-Link Archer AX50
The best Wi-Fi router
In our tests the TP-Link Archer AX50 created a speedy, responsive network even from across a medium house. You have to spend a lot more on a router—or a mesh kit if you have a very large home—to get anything even a little better. It's our first WI-Fi 6 (802.11ax) router pick.

The TP-Link Archer AX50 is reasonably priced, yet it can handle a growing selection of laptops and smart devices while surpassing the performance of routers that cost twice as much. It's generally speedy and able to reach long range, it has little lag even when the network is busy, and it's a great choice if you have a high-performance internet service plan. It's compatible with Wi-Fi 6, the latest wireless standard, and it comes with built-in security in the form of a lifetime subscription to updates.

TP-Link Archer AX20
If our main pick is unavailable
The Archer AX20 offers fewer features than our pick for a slightly lower price, but in most cases it can keep up in throughput, responsiveness, and ease of setup.

If our pick is out of stock or its price is more than $30 higher, you should consider the TP-Link Archer AX20 instead. The AX20 looks like the AX50 and offers a strong, responsive network that's nearly as good, especially if your house isn't larger than our 2,300-square-foot-test home. But it's not quite as fast at longer ranges, and TP-Link sacrifices a few advanced features and settings in its administration interface to meet the lower price

OTHER THINGS TO NOTE:

1. Donknows has a review on the AX3000 (Archer AX 50) this has thoroughly been discredited on this thread.

Quote from PeteyTheStriker :
As was mentioned by me and a few others, that DONGKNOWS review is poorly done. It is not an apples to apples comparison, he used a router with a brand new firmware comparing to an identical router with firmware over 6 months old which had major problems just like any other router around that time. It takes time to work out the bugs and TP-Link, Netgear, Asus to name a few all put out routers with bugged performance with their first set of Wifi 6 routers. So yeah..... Important to make apples to apples instead of reading something without understanding the testing. If he did it the correct way he would have had both side by side on the same firmware. The routers are identical outside USB 3.0 port and Homecare included on one, so you will get identical performance results with the same firmware.

2. CAT7, a CAT 6 or CAT5e cable is needed for gigabit Ethernet. Most cables made for the last 10 years are already 5e, so just saying that cables are usually never a bottleneck.

We do have quite a few experts on networking here. i was thinking to replace the Netgear R6700 with this. After last firmware upgrade, I see the speeds started dropping and also occasional drops on the connections./ Was working very well before that. I did a few things to work on the issue but without success.
  1. Downgraded the hardware.
  2. Hard reset the device and downgraded and vice versa.
But nothing seems to help? Any idea on how to revive the device?
If you already downgraded the firmware and you confirmed that it shows the downgraded firmware and its still not working correctly, at this point the firmware change might not have been the reason for your problem. Could just be that the router hardware is finally starting to fail which happens over time cause of dust and heat build up, as well as if you have brown outs and not clean power. In most cases you did the most important steps, I would say your probably out of luck and its time to get a new router.

Also do your research and see if you might want the benefits of the AX30/AX5000 router since its only $30 more. I mentioned the benefits in a previous post above.

Does the router in this thread or the AC 1750 select 2.3 GHz or 5.3 Ghz frequency as the default?
Both of the routers in question have and use 2.4ghz and 5ghz frequency's at the same time. When you set them up you have a choice to make you can have each frequency have its own name and you can choose which device you want to connect to which frequency or you can turn on a feature called "smart connect" smart connect will merge the two frequencies into 1 and it will decide for your device which one to put it on and it will also move it between the two if it decides it will work better on the other frequencies' at any given time. So if it starts seeing problems on one frequency cause of interference or something else causing problems it can switch the device over at will to avoid the problem. Some people like to use smart connect some people dont, its a user perference, some devices have problems with smart connect, but for the most part is works pretty well.

I see people saying they got decent speeds out of this but I am only able to pull high 200s where my crappy router that came with my cox service will pull 450. I will say setup was a breeze and the router does feel sturdy for a low end router. Sometimes the range bugs out and reads low for a few seconds even though I am 10 feet from it but then seems to get a handle and goes to full signal again.
Wanted to add but not sure if you saw my previous reply yet, might want to also play with the wireless settings and try turning on/off OFDMA and the same for Smart Connect to see if you get better results. They are simple checkmark boxes located under the wireless settings in the router web interface and I think also on the app on your smart phone. Try different combinations and see what happens, both on, both off, one on one off, so on so forth.

Does this have good support for USB tethering, or can anyone recommend another router at this price point or lower that can reliably keep a tethered connection. I'm using an AT&T phone for shared internet for the foreseeable future and need router functionality to manage 6-8 devices. Range is not a big concern, only need to cover about 1200 sq ft.

My personal preference is www.speedof.me and make sure you do multiple test back to back to validate your getting similar speeds on all minimum 3 test to get a solid average as the speeds will change each time, but they should not be drastic changes.

No USB port so nope it does not. As for alternatives none that I can think off the top of my head currently, I know some of the Asus routers offered that functionality but cant recall which models, so I will let others chime in.

The router doesn't select anything, it serves wifi access on fixed frequencies.
It's the clients who choose where and what to connect to.

And it's 2.4 and 5 GHz.

Walmart's Ax3000 is lower model of AX50 hence price difference.

"The Archer AX50 is the international and better variant of the slightly stripped-down Archer AX3000 TP-Link made exclusively for Walmart in the U.S late last year. Since the two are so similar, I had a pleasant surprise finding out how much better the AX50 is, via testing.May 4, 2020

AX20/AX1800 is the official name of the router as can be seen on the manufactures website posted below. Just like how the AX50/AX3000 are the same router. I believe the AX20/AX1800 is used to differentiate by region sold, but I am not sure why they did this.

https://www.tp-link.com/us/home-n...cher-ax20/

I dont use Alexa, but its probably simple commands as pause internet to stop internet temporarily and probably reboot to have the router restart itself. They are nothing to in depth and life changing from what I seen on previous routers with google/alexa intergration.

So, I guess you are recommending that one should pay $10 more and get it from Amazon?

Yes I saw that last night, but even TP-Link does not differentiate them completely.

Direct from their website it lists the AX50/AX3000

https://www.tp-link.com/us/home-n...cher-ax50/

On paper they are identical hardware except for one thing that I could find USB port on AX3000 is 2.0 listed and on the AX50 its listed as USB 3.0. Software the AX50 comes with homecare.

As for Dongs finding he does not mention if he updated his AX3000 to the latest firmware and did a direct comparison it sounds like hes running off old numbers from his previous review. Which if you notice is over 6 months of a difference which means plenty of time for newer firmware to fix the issue with 160 channel which a lot of router manufactures were having problems with at launch. So I would expect if he directly tested both again on latest firmware he would get similar results in terms of speeds and quality cause they are identical hardware.
