TP-Link Archer AX50
The best Wi-Fi router
In our tests the TP-Link Archer AX50 created a speedy, responsive network even from across a medium house. You have to spend a lot more on a router—or a mesh kit if you have a very large home—to get anything even a little better. It's our first WI-Fi 6 (802.11ax) router pick.

The TP-Link Archer AX50 is reasonably priced, yet it can handle a growing selection of laptops and smart devices while surpassing the performance of routers that cost twice as much. It's generally speedy and able to reach long range, it has little lag even when the network is busy, and it's a great choice if you have a high-performance internet service plan. It's compatible with Wi-Fi 6, the latest wireless standard, and it comes with built-in security in the form of a lifetime subscription to updates.

TP-Link Archer AX20
If our main pick is unavailable
The Archer AX20 offers fewer features than our pick for a slightly lower price, but in most cases it can keep up in throughput, responsiveness, and ease of setup.

If our pick is out of stock or its price is more than $30 higher, you should consider the TP-Link Archer AX20 instead. The AX20 looks like the AX50 and offers a strong, responsive network that's nearly as good, especially if your house isn't larger than our 2,300-square-foot-test home. But it's not quite as fast at longer ranges, and TP-Link sacrifices a few advanced features and settings in its administration interface to meet the lower price

OTHER THINGS TO NOTE:

1. Donknows has a review on the AX3000 (Archer AX 50) this has thoroughly been discredited on this thread.

Quote from PeteyTheStriker :
As was mentioned by me and a few others, that DONGKNOWS review is poorly done. It is not an apples to apples comparison, he used a router with a brand new firmware comparing to an identical router with firmware over 6 months old which had major problems just like any other router around that time. It takes time to work out the bugs and TP-Link, Netgear, Asus to name a few all put out routers with bugged performance with their first set of Wifi 6 routers. So yeah..... Important to make apples to apples instead of reading something without understanding the testing. If he did it the correct way he would have had both side by side on the same firmware. The routers are identical outside USB 3.0 port and Homecare included on one, so you will get identical performance results with the same firmware.

2. CAT7, a CAT 6 or CAT5e cable is needed for gigabit Ethernet. Most cables made for the last 10 years are already 5e, so just saying that cables are usually never a bottleneck.

AX3000 (2400mbps + 576) is just HT160 bandwidth on 5G.. which needs closer range to really function properly. 160mhz device (AX200/201) is also required for close range throughput of up to 2400mbps.

AX1800 (1200mbps HT80 + 576) is more logical for practical wireless use, especially with 5G limitations and channel allocation. PS5 is 80mhz, iphone is 80mhz.

I'd personally wait though. Prices are dropping and 2x2 is entry.. my2c.

Not sure if this is really a "leak" but ASUS has an AX68U AX2700 class router coming which has 3x3 + 3x3 radios and should be a better alternative to most of the 2x2 crap.

This should be the base line upgrade for AC1750 users (The most popular AC router class)
Honestly I don't know much about routers. I just upgraded to the tplink A7 and I'm lovin it. I get around 200mbps but doesn't really go above that. Idk if it's just our plan or what. My parents pay for it so idk. I just wanna upgrade to wifi 6 and mu mimo or whatever it's called. Feel free to educate me and recommend something.

My cable modem is gonna be in the living room and I'll have whatever router I choose to buy in my bedroom with my ps5, tv and such. I'll maybe use my current A7 router as an extender?

Keep what you have unless your plan is rated for much higher. MU-MIMO and OFDMA on wifi-6 has been broken for awhile and or not working with AX200/201 clients.

I'd honestly wait. These prices aren't exactly that phenomenal.

It has 1400 reviews and 4.4 stars. Guess your definition of terrible differs from mine.

Indeed. Looks like most positive review occurred within a week of installing and most negative reviews were after a month and related to overheating, dropping connections, low speeds, etc.

The sad thing is I see similar patterns in most routers today so it's hard to determine what's actually going to work consistently.

I was able to get the AX3000 for the $116 Target deal. I just hope it's better than my Linksys WRT54GL!

That's significantly outdated. Anything sub 50 bucks is better ;P

Hard to comment.

I expect AX58U (AX3000 class) to be discontinued when that happens. That hardware is shared with AX82U (AX5400) anyway, just fully enabled chip.. They can just shift production.

The 3x3 hardware will perform better at range, especially for people that still have a ton of AC clients. You lose 160mhz capability, but that's more or less a stupid feature on 5G anyway. Only pushes pushes high bandwidth close range 1-2 room apart. Wifi6 in general is intended for superior long range purposes (at least compared to wifi5 with same radio config).

Logically, its lower than the AX3000/AX58U MSRP which is currently $179.99. AX1800 will hover around $100 retail unless there's another COVID outbreak. Prices on AX HW were actually around the same price or lower a year ago.

Given this is "AX2700", I expect $130-150 max MSRP. That's with adjustments to the product stack all around. Current higher end products like AX82U will likely be adjusted downward.. maybe around $200 USD. Its just an AX58U with lights and a couple upgrades for the most part.

I thought the more appropriate baseline AC class is the Archer 9 which is better than the Archer AC1750. I mean if you were recommending an AC router (from as an example only, TP link) would it not be the Archer 9 rather than the Archer AC1750? Thank you.
