1) Going directly with T-mobile, using the iPhone 8 as a trade in will net you $415 off instead of Apple $140 + $150 Rebate Card. $415 vs $290. No brainer. Granted the Tmo deal is bill credits, but if your staying with Tmobile, who cares.
2) If you don't want Bill credits, BE PATIENT. Costco will have an offer soon if they don't have one already that will usually mirror T-Mobiles direct offer except with a prepaid card instead. Will beat Apple's crappy offer.

I have a general question and hope you will be able to answer. I have a locked Sprint phone (fully paid) and I can request an unlock. [Note that I have never inserted the Sprint SIM or any SIM into the phone as yet, which locks to the first SIM inserted). Obviously, my preference is to have this Sprint phone unlocked before any SIM can be inserted into it.
So, how does Sprint unlock the phone?
1) Does Sprint send you an unlock code that you enter in the phone?
or
2) Does Sprint unlocks the phone remotely? [Eliminating the need for a Sprint SIM to be in the phone)
or
3) Does Sprint unlock the phone "over the air" (my word)? [I.e., Sprint sends a signal to the phone, and if so, does the Sprint SIM need to be inserted in the phone]?
Note that the Sprint iphone won't let me advance beyond the Hello screen without first inserting a SIM. I have not inserted any SIM as yet.

No they do not send unlock code. You insert a att or vzw to check if the phone is unlocked
Note: you need to activate the phone with sprint sim to start the unlock days counter

The unlocking is done by folks who look at when the phone imei is activated on sprint network, hence imo your unlock counter may not start till you activate it

For Android, the other guy is right. One will need any Sprint sim (does not necessary to have active service). One will need to manually press ICCID unlocked after Sprint approve customer request for device unlock. He will need to go setting, about phone, and press that ICCID unlock.
2. How can Sprint charge me $25 (for Best Buy related activation) with a one month billing period, without starting the 40 day clock?

I have never received an email from Sprint about the promotion yet. My Trade In kit has not been received yet so Apple does not have my old phone. Will sprint send the email after the trade in is complete or is something already wrong?
