Spoke with Sam's Club customer service about 2 weeks ago. Told your membership must be expired for 6 months before considered a "new" member sign up.

However, if someone else signs up as a new member then you can be their complimentary member no matter how long ago your membership expired.

I have both Costco and Sam's. I always get this Sam's deal. It always comes out free with deals like these. After going to Sam's and Costco's for 10+ years I have found some items at Sam's that I can't find at Costco. If I could only choose 1 membership it would probably be Costco but I really like Sam's too. I love the scan and go at Sam's. It really beats out having to wait in checkout to pay. Also the hotdogs are way better at Sam's lol.

Do you need a more compelling reason than free?

I'm a Costco shopper. Does anyone have some compelling reasons as to why trying Sam's Club might be worthwhile?
Sams club has an app that you can scan and purchase your items without getting into line. As you drop in your items in your physical cart, scan each item as you go. Then check out through the app and walk towards the exit. I do like Costco, but I do not like waiting in long long lines to get things that are comparable at Sams. Sams carry items more catered towards businesses such as snacks, candy, and alcohol but beer more specifically. Personally, they carry my favorite beef jerky brand and that is enough for me to keep my membership.

How are you guys presenting this offer in store? My aunt wants to sign up but she doesn't have a smart phone (or an email address). Now I gotta figure out how to print this out for her when it's just a banner at the top.
I guess I could make something up by pasting the banner with the fine print under it. That's not sketchy at all LMAO

you can pay the membership inside the store, they are not taking your picture, they will just give you a generic Sams card with a barcode, then the $45 credit will be applied on your 1st purchase by the cashier

Anybody successfully redeemed the $45 credit?
It is applied when you pay in the store on your 1st time

No banner is showing with that offer, directly saying become a member. Adblocker is off.

Any suggestion?
the $45 credit is applied the 1st time you buy inside store, with a cashier, not in autopay

I was able to get the banner and the legalese pasted into Microsoft Paint so I can now print it out for her. I just hope they get her signed up correctly and she's not tricked into paying for the membership without freebies.
There's no promo code in the fine print for customer service to type in, so it has to just be automatic for all new members, no?

And there's less chance of Spreaders (maskless people) at Costco
Actually the Costco I always went to weekly (started going to a different one now) allows people in who do not have a mask on. I asked CS about it and they said they are not allowed to ask if they have a health concern so they have to assume they do and let them inside. (This is LA county).

I have been to Sams club 3 times since last month and everyone had a mask on.

No comparison. Costco carry ONLY good products, and if you feel something you bought is not, just return it even after you eat it. No question will be asked. So practically, everything you buy at Costco, it will end up being a good product.
Let me first say I go to Costco weekly, its my favorite place to shop, however the last few times I've purchased items several were spoiled before I even opened them.. heavy whipping cream spoiled 2 times in a row, already expired organic horizon individual box, cauliflower wraps and cheese goes moldy constantly before the exp date! I've returned half of the items and they did ask me questions, but did not hassle me.

The system will automatically update the $45 credit into the new account, if detected as a new customer, so no worries

I got this on Monday: Denial Code. ..., Denial Reason....,Avs Code...

Turns out the attempted transaction triggered a fraud alert on my CC and caused it to be disabled until I called later. When the CC system read back the suspicious transactions, the $45 charge (followed by something under a dollar from the same place) was the reason.

No idea why because all data entered was legitimate and checked. Should have known not to do business with sam's club.

Just let our Sam's membership drop after like 15 years. Unless you can make this into a money maker OR you just have no access to Costco then it isn't worth your time. My wife would have me driving 30 minutes PAST the Sam's club to go to Costco bc Costco is just so much better.

30 mins out of the way wow! the sams club near us isn't so bad to make me drive that far. an hour every trip you must save a ton to drive to costco.

This deal is slick , free membership for one year . Use it or throw it after first year.
Costco is old school. They sell outdated items mostly by throwing 2-3 yr warranties) ! People love to use them so they can return them without hassle ..
Appreciate the service and the easy return policy they have but the lines suck! Yesterday I had to wait half hr to return Bluetooth Headphones( apparently lot of junk products are sold at Costco now and the girl said everyone returning those skullcandies )! Waited another half in checkout line! Not to forget it's weekday afternoon ..imagine weekends how horrible it has to be !
It doesn't cost a lot to come up with scan and go Like sams but Costco loves to keep its customers wait in lines !,

This is freaking infuriating.

I signed up for the ups my choice deal ($30 credit, $45 membership) 11 days ago. I tried seeing if the credit is listed on my account, and I can't find it anywhere. I used sams chat, which was basically worthless.

I wait a few days, contact chat again, and I'm told the credit is on my account and ready to be used, and that I won't see it until I after I checkout on the receipt. The next day, I go to the store in person, and buy a $400 item which I took directly to the register in person, and it was not an excluded item, I did not get $30 off that purchase. I didn't use scan and go, I didn't do anything special. Walk up to register, scan card, scan item, no discount on receipt.

Since then I've contacted sams club live chat multiple times, and worthless is an understatement. I was optimistic yesterday morning when my issue was "escalated", only to get an email which regurgitated that the credit will be on my account within 72 hours after I signed up, which is the exact same nonsense the live chat person told me that morning. I signed up 11 days ago, it has been more than 72 hours.. ???????????

I'm really frustrated. Do I just go to the store and hope I get the credit the next time I go to check out? I can't believe how poor this customer service experience has been so far. In store, they're great. Online, terrible, terrible isn't a strong enough word. I'm about to give up and try to stop the membership charge on my credit card bill, I already bought the item I wanted, f this scamming crap.

I'm a member of both and the Scan and Go app is a spectacular time saver and a well-designed user interface. Worth the price of entry alone IMO. Scan your items before putting them in your basket, slide to pay, done! No more waiting in line at the register like at Costco.
Agree. LOVE the scan and go. Sam's also has a way better selection of snacks/chips for my kids and they have Wright brand bacon (often Pecan, Applewood and Hickory smoked options) that BLOWS Costco bacon away.

I won't ever get rid of Costco membership but having Sam's for free is a no brainer.

The early posts said the credit would be only taken off at the regular register, not scan and go, not self checkout...

That's not the concern. The concern is that they would save your CC info at the cashier's desk without your permission and then later reuse it for auto-renewal. I don't think they would really do this (after all they must have lawyers too), but that's what the conditions state.
Hahahaha. Yeah, if you go in the club you can look over the counter and see the stacks and stacks of people's credit card numbers, just ready for them to manually charge your card....

That was sarcasm of course, don't take it seriously.

So, in the app you can add as many credit cards as you would like. When it is renewal time, and if you did not turn it off like mentioned above, then they can charge whichever card is the primary. If that fails for some reason, then they can charge another one on file. It really is pretty basic if you understand how anything works.

That said, just turn it off and move on with your life.

My opinion is Sam's is far better for us. We buy specific items and they are great, and those same items average a dollar or two more at Costco. Also, it seems like I have more issues with stupid people at Costco. They typically act like they are the only ones in the store and park their carts in the middle of the aisle with no regard to other people existing. May just be my area, but that happened numerous times. Due to those reasons, I returned our membership and have not missed it.

Having the scan and go is the best. I have not waited in a line since it came out. All receipts are kept in the app as well, so no more losing them or searching around if needed.

Most importantly, notice how I said it is better for US. That means it is my opinion, not a fact. Bottom line, neither is better as they both offer features that the other does not. Find what works best for you and carry on with your life.
