This receiver is one of the most highly rated receivers up to $2000 in price. I have the newer model x3700, and there is very little difference. I would jump on this even if you have a $2500 budget for a receiver. Check out this website for the full review: https://audiosciencereview.com/fo...iew.12676/

The Yamaha TSR-700 supports HDMI 2.1 on multiple inputs, so it has a huge advantage from a video capability standpoint (with up to 8K 60Hz and 4K 120Hz with full support for 4K 60p at 4:4:4). From an audio standpoint, the Denon AVR-x3600H is the champ, with 11.2 pre-amp output and 9 internal amps and it can support Dolby Atmos 7.1.4, unlike the Yamaha which is 7.2, only stereo pre-outs and can support Dolby Atmos 5.1.2 at best with internal amps). The TSR-700 is closer in comparison to the Denon AVR-x2600H.

Multi-channel receivers all have a lot of configuration options and these two are no exception. People who are familiar with Denon settings will likely find the 3600H easier to set up. No info on the Yamaha since it is all new.

Yes, but people have been getting the X3700H in the mid $800's so if you are prepared to be patient and make the effort you can get the latest version for not a lot more money. If you are in a hurry and you don't want to make the effort, or you don't know how to, then this could be a good deal for you.

I think you are mistaken about the x3700h price. I searched all over for months and the recent Greentoe deal for 950 is the best out there.

Reasons to get the 3700 over the 3600:
- 4K@120hz and 8k. But there is a bug with this currently and it doesn't work. Might need a hardware fix.
- Full amp disconnect when only using the preouts. Super useful if you have all external amplification. This effectively makes this receiver the cheapest pre/pro available.
- 1 year newer so longer support (obvious)

For someone who is not too technically savvy, can you help me understand the exact issue with 3700?

I was ready to purchase 3700 until I saw the 4k/8k issue. I wonder what kind of fix works be implemented (if any for existing owners). Now I'll have to wait to see and maybe this gen altogether.

I will explain in non technical way - you need to wait 1 more year for the 4k 120 stuff to work. I would expect all hardware, PS5, Xbox, AVRs and TVs to simply not properly work from day 1.

On the other hand, you can be sure that their data collection and analytics will work flawless. Welcome to 2020.

Basically the hdmi chip has issue and will not display properly with 4k 120 or 8k (black screen). This is the issue with the chipset and effecting all amp that's out this year hyping to support new game consoles. So buying from different manufactures or higher end ones will still have this issue. Skip all 2020 model for now

So better to just go with x3600h then?

Greentoe countered 3700 for $899 last week.Unfortunately backordered before I placed the order.I bought the 3600 from this deal and will check if 3700 comes to $899 back.3600 can be returned till Jan 2021.

If you need 4k 120 or 8k with your receiver, there's no solution right now. The key selling point for this year's model is pretty much broken and I haven't read there's a clear solution at this moment.

I'm kinda new to the 4k world. With 4k 120 thats really only applicable to gaming and not 4k movies correct?

4k 120 is purely for gaming (consoles or pc) and you also need a tv to support 4k 120 or 8k. If you don't have the right tv or gaming, this will not affect you. For me, I pre-ordered Xbox Series X and my TV supports 4k 120, so this is a major issue for me.

So other than this, what advantage does 3700 have over 3600? If I wanted to sort of future proof my purchase, should I go for 3700 if I get a $1000 sale?
