What WD has changed in the firmware for these, it is impossible to tell. But both EDFZ and EMFZ run at 7200 RPM while in the enclosure (research appears to show that this drive is 5400rpm). As a result, they tend to run hot. In the enclosure, my EDFZ drives run at 50-55C & 8.5W from the wall under load.

I would watch resource usage on the server while playing from the client. Whatever hits max usage will likely be the bottleneck. If nothing gets pegged on the server, then I would check cables, switches, etc.
I can play 4k HDR content uncompressed without any issues over ethernet from plex, but wifi buffers frequently.
also check out "open media vault" if you're looking to create a psuedo nas.

Yea I'm waiting until 16TB surfaces. My mediasonic enclosure maxes out at 16tb per drive so might as well get the largest one that fits.
I have two drives I need to test before shucking.
