Is this a historic low price, or just the best we're gonna see in 2020?

Yes. I've tried streaming through my Roku and through my TV. Both connected through ethernet. Netflix 4k plays just fine from Roku tho. Maybe need to change a couple of settings in Plex??
Is there a bottleneck in your network? Netflix 4k doesn't take a lot of bandwidth compared to an uncompressed 4k rip (assuming you aren't compressing them). Also is it possible that the client device is causing transcoding to be done and slowing the server? A 4k transcode down to the plex default of 720p may put a strain on your server if you forgot to change the defaults.

I would watch resource usage on the server while playing from the client. Whatever hits max usage will likely be the bottleneck. If nothing gets pegged on the server, then I would check cables, switches, etc.

I can play 4k HDR content uncompressed without any issues over ethernet from plex, but wifi buffers frequently.

I haven't seen these below 189 yet. Last year they were 200, so not a lot of movement on price yet. I doubt you will see much if anything below 189 this year. If so, I believe the major retailers have already set up their holiday return policies so you can always return it if needed.

I intentionally "missed" it because I knew there would be an amex bb offer coming and it did.
Tangent question: are there ever good cash bonus deals on starting Amex cards or do you just have to get one when you want one?

Would this work connected to a raspberry pi to stream 4k movies? My home network can't seem to keep up when streaming through plex from my pc.
Yes but why use plex? Not sure what you're using but I just use a fire stick or cube with VLC and play over my network share.

also check out "open media vault" if you're looking to create a psuedo nas.

You left out a few factors. Streaming from your pc with plex, wifi connection or an ethernet connection? If a pc doesn't work on your network I'm guessing a pi on your network won't work any better. But yes your pc and a pi with plex on a good network of ethernet will work fine for 4k streams. Wifi network you need probably at least an AC/AX router. An N router will work too but you may have more issues. You have factors of distance the device wifi chipsets, walls and other factors which can reduce your bandwidth on your network. 4k streaming is a large amount of data. Try upgrading your router or use ethernet connectivity.

I was hoping for 16TB deals this BF too for around $199. I have 2 unopened 14TB's I'm holding out on in case a deal surfaces.

Nice!
Yea I'm waiting until 16TB surfaces. My mediasonic enclosure maxes out at 16tb per drive so might as well get the largest one that fits.

Picked mine up and hooked it up to my Xbox for game pass. I've got several years of games with gold, game pass, and EA play so around 400 games and I still have 5-6TB left for the future! Great deal

How long did it take for you guys to use WD Tools to test the drive, and which test did you use? Anything better to use for testing before shucking?

I have two drives I need to test before shucking.
Some of mine are still arriving. I'm running the WD tools. 20hrs each for testing. I figure it's worth the wait.
