Looking for a laptop for my mom, for basic use. Seems like a pretty good deal for a ryzen 2 in 1. Opinions?

I got the same model or very similar from a prior Best buy deal. This laptop seems like overkill for your mom if she's just doing web browsing etc. It has touchscreen which I find useful, but most people don't. 15.6" is great for staying at desks around the house. If she's moving from spot to spot in a home, go with a 13 or 14". Any of the cheaper 300-400 laptop deals would likely be more than enough power for her needs.

The laptop itself is great though. Nice fit and finish. Plenty fast for my daughters needs and should last a bit as she gets older and into more demanding tasks.

Hmm, looking for a laptop with similar specs to this (though don't need the 360 hinge). It's been hard to find ones with a touchscreen, backlit keyboard, at least 256 ssd, AND in the 15.6 size-range for this price so far this year.

Is there likely to be better pricing this year, or any cashback offers? I bought myself a Dell last year and got around $200 back between Amex cashback and money from a cashback website (it might've been be frugal, can't recall). Does that tend to come around every year?

Appreciate the feedback, she's definitely looking for touchscreen and wanted 15" screen as that's what's she's used to with her current laptop. Goal was to spend $500ish, but willing to spend more for a laptop that'll last

That's great, this is a solid laptop then! This cpu is very fast and I haven't seen many better deals for this configuration since the best buy deal I grabbed. Should last a long time.

edit- don't forget to update all the drivers and firmware when you get it though. There were many updates that helped resolve odd video glitches we experienced in zoom initially.

I don't know about how long this will last, but it looks like good specs. You can throw in a 3-year warranty for another $79, which will cover accidents. My husband has a 360 HP Envy from four years ago and likes it, and the IPS screen is beautiful, but we had problems with the keyboard (some keys would stick so you had to hit it several times to type certain letters) and had to have the keyboard replaced under warranty (different warranty, bought direct from HP, but I'd imagine the wal-mart warranty would cover this, too). It was a hassle getting it replaced, and they had to replace it twice because the first keyboard they used was also faulty. That makes me a bit wary of these devices, but my husband said he'd still own another.

I had put in about considering a 14 inch before I realized you said she'd liked her 15 inch before, so I cut it, lol. I do find the small difference in weight makes it nicer to carry around at 14 inches, and especially nicer if she ever uses it lying on the couch or bed, much easier to handle. It all depends on what she prefers, because it's a tradeoff -- the bigger screen is impressive, but the smaller one is so light and effortless to carry around.

Oh, I should add one more difference -- the 14 inch ones don't have the number keypad, the 15.6 often do. If she wants one, better go big. I prefer not to have one, keeps everything centered on the keyboard.

Is this the same except for i5 vs. Ryzen? Which is better?
