I just purchased this water heater, normally $1299, for $799 + tax + $75 shipping.
https://www.homedepot.com/p/Rheem.../312742081

Steps to get deal:
1) Go to above link
2) Change store to zip code 15010(Edit: use Zip 97322 for $699 instead of $799)
3) Select Ship to Home (unless you happen to live close to this store), add to cart.
4) Check out.

Additional notes:
1) Federal tax credit of $300. State tax credits vary, in my home state we get an additional $400 (bringing this heater down to $99 + $75 shipping + tax).
2) For many/most, the $75 shipping is worth it even if you can get this price locally as these heaters are quite heavy and supposedly must be transported vertically.
3) Do your homework on these hybrid heaters before purchasing. You need 220V to operate. Installation expense is generally much higher with hybrid electric vs standard electric resistance heaters and gas heaters. Hot water recovery is very slow (but you can switch to standard electric mode for rapid recovery when you know your usage will be high, e.g. having company over). They can apparently be loud, so if this will be located close to a bedroom, important to think about. There are important climate and installation location factors to consider--just google.
4) The newest generation of this series from Rheem, called "Proterra" can be had for $1269, a slight discount compared to full price (15% for my location). After carefully examining specs, photos, etc - it seems that the only difference with the Proterra series is built-in leak detection with auto-shutoff. FYI if that feature is important to you, you can add it for $219:
https://www.homedepot.com/p/Rheem...513?NCNI-5
5) This is for 50 gallon. Looks like if you need 65 gal or 80 gal, the Proterra is actually on sale (whereas the Performance Platinum is full price), making the Proterra cheaper.

We are family of 4 and put the heater always in energy saver mode. The typical usage it seems is ~5kwh every day. with California rate of 21Cents /kwh, the daily cost of operation is 1.05$ with monthly rate of 31.50 and yearly rate of 372$+. The advertised yearly usage is 104$/yr.. I am not sure how can I hit that ? does it need to be put in heat pump mode to get the advertised yearly usage ?
You must be in a rather expensive area. California average is 17 cents/kWh. Your usage seems high. Just checked mine using the App. Says I used 37kWh for month of November. I'm in AZ where rate is about 12 cents/kWh. Mine is in energy saver mode. Do you live in a rather cold climate? If so, that could be the issue. Hybrid heaters moderate to warmer climate regions. I'm in Phoenix.

I purchased one last May for $999 on sale from $1299. Replaced conventional heater, installed myself using copper flex hoses and PEX pipe. If App is correct it's cost me about $40 so far to run. Old heater was about that much per month!

What is the difference between the Platinum and the newer Proterra? Someone earlier mentioned the newer one has leak detection. My Platinum has that. Sounds an alarm and can notify me on my phone. So anything else that would make the Proterra any better?

So far everything is looking good. HD called to say they had to change the delivery date because they put it on the wrong type of truck, a flatbed instead of a box truck. I had to call them back to change the date to a day I would be home. I am in no hurry and don't expect to have it installed right away. My current 12+ yr old water heater is working just fine. Smilie

I got the same call switching it to Saturday (today). It's sitting in my entry way right now.
699+79 delivery - 600 power company credit-300 fed credit = $122 for installation costs

Wow, nice credit from your power company. Our local company doesn't offer any rebates or credits for energy saving devices. Electrical District 3 sucks!!! Great price for installation, is HD installing it?

Just done installing the unit with help of my friend. He did most of the installation though.

Parts cost around $150 from HD. plastic water catch pan, 20 ft PVC, 10 ft 3/4 copper pipe etc.
Hardest parts were to reconfigure water inlet outlet from the top to the side and create new drain line (making hole in the wall to let drain go outside)

It was cheaper than $800-900 installation quote from local plumbers. However I won't get $400 rebate from local electric company since I did not use licensed plumber.

Not that it will help you but try putting in 45449 as the delivery address. 97322 for the "your shopping" location.
This method worked for me still. Paid the $79 shipping and my local electric company has a $500 rebate

Quick question about what is the best operating mode (saving electricity bill) for running this hybrid water heater.

I've read all previous post about hybrid mode is the best energy saving mode for this water heater. However, econet app keep reminding me to set Energy Saving mode with saying" This Equipment should be set to ENERGY SAVING Mode for maximum efficiency"

What will be the right operating mode for this water heater (Rheel 50gal 5 gen)?

I live in Tucson, AZ and water heater is placed in the insulated garage.

Thank you for your input.

Here's my take on these since I have actually had one for about 10 years?
In the winter, the compressor sucks the heated air out of my utility room, hallway, and even my bedroom to heat the water inside the tank! In the summer it's fine because I want it cooler. But it drops my temps a substantial amount in the rooms I mentioned above. You need a sizeable room to install because it sucks a lot of air-or just put it out in the garage if you can manage it.
Yes I noticed a substantial savings on the electricity but froze my ass in winter. Hahah. No joke.

Placed the unit in two car garage with 10 ft ceiling.
My average garage temp for past 4 weeks is about 67F.

Unit is set for 120F right now and I will leave it in heat pump mode.

thanks for your input

Just curious how many kWh in total do you use for month of November. We live in north Virginia and only use electricity for everything, my DAILY average is ~ 50 kWh
