I just purchased this water heater, normally $1299, for $799 + tax + $75 shipping.
https://www.homedepot.com/p/Rheem.../312742081

Steps to get deal:
1) Go to above link
2) Change store to zip code 15010(Edit: use Zip 97322 for $699 instead of $799)
3) Select Ship to Home (unless you happen to live close to this store), add to cart.
4) Check out.

Additional notes:
1) Federal tax credit of $300. State tax credits vary, in my home state we get an additional $400 (bringing this heater down to $99 + $75 shipping + tax).
2) For many/most, the $75 shipping is worth it even if you can get this price locally as these heaters are quite heavy and supposedly must be transported vertically.
3) Do your homework on these hybrid heaters before purchasing. You need 220V to operate. Installation expense is generally much higher with hybrid electric vs standard electric resistance heaters and gas heaters. Hot water recovery is very slow (but you can switch to standard electric mode for rapid recovery when you know your usage will be high, e.g. having company over). They can apparently be loud, so if this will be located close to a bedroom, important to think about. There are important climate and installation location factors to consider--just google.
4) The newest generation of this series from Rheem, called "Proterra" can be had for $1269, a slight discount compared to full price (15% for my location). After carefully examining specs, photos, etc - it seems that the only difference with the Proterra series is built-in leak detection with auto-shutoff. FYI if that feature is important to you, you can add it for $219:
https://www.homedepot.com/p/Rheem...513?NCNI-5
5) This is for 50 gallon. Looks like if you need 65 gal or 80 gal, the Proterra is actually on sale (whereas the Performance Platinum is full price), making the Proterra cheaper.

The rebates are regional and national. There were two…
I bought this water heater about a month ago. For about 3 weeks, my regional power company offered an Instant Rebate of $500 off (trough select Home Depots near me, in WA). The government is also offering another $300 tax credit, separately, docs to be filled out with your 2020 taxes.
So $1,299 - $500 - $300 = $499 is amazing for this water heater. **I had a propane water heater, so I will be saving about $60 to $70 per month

The manual seems to suggest an expansion tank and one other valve (i'm forgetting the exact name for it) but only IF required. My old conventional electric heater doesn't have either installed (and the home inspectior did not flag anything when we bought the house)— can I then assume i won't be needing these? Also most of the installs on youtube don't appear to have them either. TIA.
Call up your water department and see if you have an open or closed water system. If you have an open system, then you don't need the expansion tank. A closed water system has check valves which prevent water to go back into the public water system. From what you are indicating, you have an open system, but for a peace of mind call your water company.
Good luck.

My husband didn't want to install this so we hired it. The labor bid ranges were crazy--from $2500 to $400. We went with a known good master plumber for $500 plus $50 in parts. However, he did not put a clean out tee in the condensate connection and I didn't notice that until he left. He did all plastic pipe no flexible stuff.

It is only slightly noisy when running which is not often for us in the energy saving mode. It's in our garage. Lots of information on youtube regarding set up and app.

I scored the SlickDeal on the 14th of December. They arrived today in South Florida.
$699 + $75 (s&h) + $51 tax. Paid $825 total where local HD has it for $1300 +tax. Such a Deal..

Once again, thank you for the post.

I ordered mine on Tuesday last week (12/15) using the info listed. Worked like a charm! I requested Home Delivery (+$79.00), and it was delivered to my house Saturday 12/19 in the afternoon (BTW, am in Florida).

I checked the website again, and I think Home Depot caught up to it: they are now only giving the $600.00 rebate via "In-Store Only" (not online anymore).

At least, I am glad I was able to order it on-time and at that price. THANK YOU! :-)

Just an observation: The instruction manual that accompanied the water heater mentions PEX specifically as a recommended option for connecting supply lines directly to both the water-heater's hot outlet and cold inlet connections. Posting this in case other folks were wondering (like I was) whether it's necessary to run copper for the initial connection to the appliance.
