I got one for $340 last year on BFriday with an online price match followed by a 25% off Bed Bath Beyond instore coupon. I haven't seen it lower. These typically go on sale closer to $500.
I was a former barista and even competed in the SCAA mid-atlantic barista competition several years ago. This is no $10k machine (foaming will take longer and it's less forgiving if you're not perfectly dialed in) but to get anything better you'll need to spend upwards of $700.
This is the best price you will see for the Barista Express outside of a once a year coupon mistake at Bed Bath & Beyond (which only gets it down to ~$385)
If you're waiting for a deal on this machine - this is it.
If you sign up for text message alerts for Bed Bath & Beyond, the coupon they send you works on Breville (online and in store). Did it a couple months ago for a Bambino Plus. Standard 20% off coupons don't work.
I love the 870XL, but we've gone through 2 of them in 5 years. The last one only lasted 2 years. We used it 2-4 times every day. I'd consider getting again, but am going to try a Delonghi and cross my fingers with that.
Wow, for real? I use ours 3-4 times per day as well and am almost at 3 years. I hope it isn't about to break. Did you clean it when the light came on and also do the vinegar descaling from time to time?

although i think breville in general is a good brand - i recommend going with an Italian machine - the quality isnt much better - but they are very easy to repair (parts are widely available and youtube videos).
I have the gaggia classic (and a gaggia baby twin) and they are basic machines that are built like tanks.

Damn, that was fast! I put in my order barely 5-10 minutes after I got the notification from SD. I hope SLT doesn't cancel my order like when Verizon f'd me on that pair of Bose 700. :/

Love this model. Bought it for 450 CAD a couple years ago. I see it getting that low somewhat regularly, but it's a steal regardless. Such a great machine.

These Breville's are notorious for going bad. Highly recommend pairing it with some type of warranty, either from SquareTrade, or your CC. My grinder started to go bad after a couple years.
The issue is that the parts aren't meant to be replaceable, i.e. the burrs in the grinder. Higher end models, or those from other manufacturers (Rancilio, Rocket, etc.) can be fixed via specialized espresso repair stores.
