And just to confirm, I had called the CSR after opening the account and they had confirmed that I used the promo code.

very sketchy bank service so far.
Code was confirmed when applying. Should be good there. Will have to call to setup an online account, ya know since they dont give a damn confirmation or anything.
made the mistake of not saving my checking account information. Capital One's website is not listing the checking account under my social security look up.
This is so sketchy. Hopefully no credit check and call customer service in the morning. Since they have ZERO after-hours customer service. What kind of bank has no after-hours hotline?
They do not have an after hours number. So, I called this morning.
Apparently you have to wait 24 hours for the system to add your new account. Then you can search for it in the "Setup Online Access" button under the login button on their website.
Still after calling, no confirmation was given to me that the account was created. I did manage to get the account number and routing number from them to save in my records.
so sketchy, will not be using them after this deal is over.
It seems like the proper coding of Direct Deposit is something like this
Transaction Type: Electronic transfer
Appears on statement as: Deposit from Company name PAYROLL
Memo
PAYROLL
A lot of people of DoC commenting that Memo: P2P and Memo: Ext Trnsfr might not work
Ah well, It was hard to change my DD anyway.
Transaction Type: Electronic transfer
Appears on statement as: Deposit from **Company Name** PAYMENTS
Memo: PAYMENTS
I think the Memo depends on how your company codes it and not something that CapOne controls.

I travel to foreign countries frequently, and the Capital One 360 debit card is a true life-saver. Your credit card is useless in many foreign countries especially for small purchases. Even buying a train ticket from a ticket machine in Europe proves impossible with my arsenal of US-based credit cards. But this card works anywhere credit or debit card is accepted in the world, without a fee. I've used it in the smallest deli in Brazil, the creepiest ATM in Indonesia, all without any issues. Find an ATM that has no fees in a foreign country, and withdraw local money in any amount completely fee-free at close to market rate and skip the currency changer. How awesome is that.
Some would put DD, ACH, PSP, Transfer, ACH Transfer, ACH TRAN, etc, while others would put some garbage or even your name. Amazon sellers, for example, gets their payment like this:
Deposit from AMZNQMD5400S Marketplac
Memo
Marketplac
Now tell me, is "Marketplac" coded as a different type of transaction or is it just a name that has no significant to how transactions are coded?
Another example when you initiate the transfer from Discover Bank:
Deposit from DISCOVER BANK PREARRANGE
Memo
PREARRANGE
At this point you should start to understand that the name and the memo means nothing to them. If you were the programmer at Cap1, would you be looking for ACH and DD using the name to figure out who gets the bonus?
So how is it coded in their system? If you are a technical person, you can open Developer Tools on your browser, go to Network and look at the XHR behind the scene. That's the only way anyone can know besides the IT guys at Cap1.
One thing I forgot to mention in previous posts, is that there IS a difference if you initiated the transfer from Cap 1, or from the external bank. Cap 1 can easily exclude the bank transfers initiated from their end, because they have all the records. If they are initiated from the external bank, they are ACH and they will be counted.
Yeah that last point you made is important to initiate the transfer from an outside bank into the Capital One account.
What you're saying makes sense, but to cover my bases, I'm planning to transfer $500 from a couple of different banks to be safe. It's not like the money has to sit there until March. It can't hurt, right?
And for the people missing the promo code, in the initial sign up process, just fund $5 from an external account.
The promo code box is hidden inside the option to fund the account.
It's helpful to have the "Find on page" search box open to consistently search for the word "promo" so you won't miss it.
Even if my bank transfers won't meet the DD requirements, no point in getting bent out of shape. It's not like I'm losing money or any considerable time.
Discover pays their bonuses literally the day after meeting req,and chase does it a week after, capital one is of a different breed.

I'd consider siphoning money from my work DD if it wasn't a pain in the ass with paperwork. It'd be great if it was as easy as changing the deposit account from an online dashboard.
I'd rather not interrupt it since I pay rent and utilities from that account. I'm sure that's the case for a bunch of ppl.
No it should be fine as long as the aggregate deposit amount hits $1000.
From the Doctor of Credit thread ($10,000 in deposits):
"Data point:
$10,000 does not have to be posted all at once or remain in account for bonus to work.
I did:
$2000 PNC (account #1) -> CapitalOne -> PNC (account #2)
$2000 PNC (account #1) -> CapitalOne -> PNC (account #2)
$6001 PNC (account #1) -> CapitalOne
At any given time I never had more than $6001 in the account. Bonus posted 2 days after I reached $10,000 of aggregate deposits."
"Worked for me too using Ally. Deposit $5400 , withdraw all of it, deposit $5,400 again. Bonus in 2 days."
Those replies were posted in 2017 but I'd assume it's still the same since the offer terms don't specify the balance has to hit a specific $ amount, just 2+ deposits totaling $1000.
