- The APPLE gift card ($100) can be used to buy apps, iTunes stuff (music and movies), AND is good at the APPLE store (even for physical goods), but again, that's at the APPLE STORE. Keep in mind everything they sell there, except for some holiday and back to school bonuses, are all RETAIL, REGULAR price.
- The BestBuy gift card (the $20) can be used to buy most anything (except other gift cards, I think?) that BestBuy sells, including Apple stuff. But you'd better have a good use for that $100 above first!
Should also be noted that once you load these gift cards to your account you can't buy physical items in store. You have to use the Apple Store app or website to do in store pick up.
2000$ is the maximum you can have loaded to your Apple ID at a time. I've bought more than that and would use, redeem, and reload to make it work.

my order for egift card kept getting cancelled. Ordered a physical card for pick up in store. Got email at 8.31PM (est) that order is ready for pickup, and a min later that it is already picked up while I am at home watching tv. this has been nothing but pain dealing with Best Buy for this apple gift card.

I ordered a physical gift card last week that was supposedly shipped on Thursday. The shipment email has a tracking number, but the tracking info shows that it hasn't been received by USPS. My Best Buy account doesn't show a tracking number and says: "We're waiting for USPS to provide your tracking information." I was already charged for it.
I used to work in a Best Buy store. This is clearly not how this should have been handled. There are internal information systems in place where they should have confirmed and cross referenced company wide current promotions if they really were doubtful. Did you already pay for it when they refused? Did the manager void the transaction? When there is a promotion like that, like you said the register just prompts the employee to scan a gift card to load the promo amount and that's it.
I would absolutely inform corporate. If you've got the employees' names and the store number even better. (612) 291-1000
Wow. Thanks you so much for this. I was trying to pay when I realized the cashier hadn't scanned the gift card to load it yet. I really wanted to buy from Best Buy, but when they refused to take my money, I went to Target.com and ended up spending $500 there. Target was glad to accept my business with no issues. I've never had this situation or anything like it happen before. I can probably find out the manager's and cashier's names and definitely the store number. It's weird... I had such good memories of buying from there in the past and several of my best friends used to work there. Now, I feel like the current employees & manager discriminate who they do business with and who they don't. I'm a nice, humble person... was just trying to buy a gift card on Black Friday.

For sure, I do think that was a deplorable way to handle the situation.
Definitely remember, not sure if you have more than one store in your area, but your experience can vary depending on the exact building you're in. Best Buy is a pretty large nationwide retailer, it is pretty much impossible to have a completely uniform straight across the board experience. I can confirm Best Buy is a good company, but some stores/employees are clearly more inviting and pleasant than others. But believe me, corporate would want to hear about this, every company that size has good and bad people working for them, and a lot of times they don't even know the bad ones until someone complains. But in the big picture, yes, Best Buy is a good company, especially for a retailer.
I hope you do have another store near you that you can try, if not and that store is your only real option, when BBY has something running you just can't turn down (which absolutely happens) I would recommend doing as much as you can with the new curbside pickup option. Great way to keep interaction with actual people to a minimum lol

Yeesh. My last GC purchase was a few hours before the deal expired and I surprisingly got both GCs pretty quick, within 30 mins or so.
The longest I waited was a full day, so if your GCs don't show up by then, I'd follow up and contact customer support.
I still haven't received it. I too had ordered late on 11/30
