R-SIM is a SIM card add-on that looks like a really thin SIM card that mounts on top of your nano sim (or below depending on the model) that allows you to bypass the sim lock by hard coding a new ICCID that is unlocked.

You can buy the R-SIMs off ebay/amazon and they are usually $10 give or take.

It works reasonably well and the wiki talks about how to operate it, the only challenge is sometimes iOS updates break it and sometimes you need a new ICCID but for the most part it's great and allows you to use a SIM locked phone with any provider. and in this case you dont have to wait 180 days with Cricket to get an unlock code.

Keep in mind it is unlike the factory unlocking process which is permanent. Here you are dependent always on the R-SIM.

back in the day it also went by the name Gevey SIM.
As long as you have an old Sprint SIM card laying around (they're reusable)... and an IMEI from a phone that's compatible with Sprint's network, you can sign up for the $5 service (data only) or if you want to play it safe... $6 service (500mb data, 100 min). Pay for service, enter in IMEI and SIM card info, activate. You'll have instant access to a new phone number, pin to access port out info.
I bought 2 already. total cost $196 for 2 phones. trade in value of SE at apple is $210

Are you saying that you can get this bad boy for like $50 + $30 service + taxes so in total like $100 dollars, then keep it as a wifi-only ipod, game device etc. without ever fully unlocking it? And that cricket will let a $400 phone go that easily? Don't they lose big money from this?
Doesn't it say the service is 60$?

Does anyone know if a t-mobile number for port purchased from eBay will work ? I see conflicting comments regarding this in the previous iPhone 8 thread
Yes, I did it twice after reading that nonsense and it worked just fine. The wiki that they copy & paste is full of misinformation, like you can't paste in your port in details and have to type it in. It isn't true.

The seller I used was at ebay url: /itm/224014835324

Sprint SIM card and iPhone/Samsung phone IMEI sure comes in handy... Tello $5 new account and instant port out Wink

Not sure what I'm doing with so many iPhone SE purchases lately... But could probably trade it into Apple for $205 or sell it locally for around $250 I guess.
Thanks for the tip! This is what I did! Tello actually gave me a $10 credit after opening my first line, so my second line was free!

Bought two SE's on the $60 plan for $200 total + $5 tello line(s) = $205. Also got $5 CB from R.

Planning on doing the apple trade-in for $205 each. Thanks for help!

On the apple trade do they have to be unlocked after 6 months of service or can you just send in the new never opened phone? Also isn't the $205 trade in value for the 256GB version of the iPhone SE?

From the Terms and Conditions on the last step of checkout page: " I understand that monthly service begins upon activation, and new lines with new numbers may be automatically activated within eight days of shipping."

so, if I am a first time customer for Cricket, I can either use the $CB from R
or get some referral link?

I can't do both right ?

You can send in a new, unused phone! And their is no GB requirement for Apple trade in. Shows $205 regardless currently.

So you bought 2 phones at same time so 2 lines one being $60/mo for first line and $30/mo for 2nd line? So your out of pocket cost was $49x2 plus $90 for 1 month service for 2 lines plus taxes and that got came to be around $200.

So you ported 2 numbers from Tello service? Can you explain how Tello works and how to sign up and then be able to port out to Cricket? Is it $5 to get a new number and account setup with them and then port it out to Cricket? Can you explain the details a bit more?

I do it online. Not sure about in store. And it is credit only for use with Apple at their stores/website. No you do not have to buy a new phone. You can buy an pole product.

Everything you said was spot on.

Go to Tello's website. You will need two CDMA SIM cards and two other phone IMEI's for this method. It's easy, but if you are unsure, buy a port in number from eBay. They usually got for around $7-8 per number. So not much more expensive.

Could you possibly provide an example of a good listing to get a port in number from?

Tello is the best and quickest provided you have a sprint sim card and a sprint phone.
