I would've jumped on any one of those deals if the screen wasn't a tad too small for today's phones.
You think it's small, I am still using 1st generation iPhone SE.

It depends on the days of the 6 months you are talking about. It must be for 180 days.

Yes have to be active for 6 months. I have done twice.
Thanks for the replies. So, if you port in a number you want to keep, it sounds like you would need to pay for 7 months so that they would unlock your phone after 6 months / 180 days and then still be able to port out your number. You couldn't port out during the 6th month because then you wouldn't have active service for the full 6 months / 180 days even though you prepaid for it. Is this correct?

I always hate to read people asking for their hand to be held on a deal but I'm just not quite getting it if I can leverage this one for my situation.

Want to get mother-in-law a new iPhone SE for Christmas. She is on cricket and wants to stay on cricket. I don't want her or I to have to visit a cricket store or contact them to update her account. Just want to swap her SIM into the new phone(and transfer the data/etc, obv). I don't imagine it's as simple as buying a non ATT # from ebay and then signing up as a new cricket customer? Would I be on the hook for 6 months of service? I assume the answer is yes.

iPhones are used to be small (4"). Then, people are getting used to the big (6.5") screen. After that, they are not comfortable with the small (4.7") screen anymore. i

Wish Mint Mobile offered deals like this.
Agreed, but Mint is offering rock-bottom prices, whereas Cricket is subsidizing these sorts of deals with service plans that cost twice as much.

It's actually around 175 days it allows it. I've done that on a 7 and 8 in the last year.

Google tells you 6 months is 182.5 days, so you may be able to get it unlocked before the 7th month payment. but if you have Feb as part of your 6-month, you may have to pay the 7th month

It's actually 175 days, which is less than 6 months, even if Feb is involved. I've unlocked two phones recently around the 175 day time frame.

What special instructions did you give. Listing says ask for carrier before purchasing. Did you state you wanted to port to cricket? Thanks.
