R-SIM is a SIM card add-on that looks like a really thin SIM card that mounts on top of your nano sim (or below depending on the model) that allows you to bypass the sim lock by hard coding a new ICCID that is unlocked.

You can buy the R-SIMs off ebay/amazon and they are usually $10 give or take.

It works reasonably well and the wiki talks about how to operate it, the only challenge is sometimes iOS updates break it and sometimes you need a new ICCID but for the most part it's great and allows you to use a SIM locked phone with any provider. and in this case you dont have to wait 180 days with Cricket to get an unlock code.

Keep in mind it is unlike the factory unlocking process which is permanent. Here you are dependent always on the R-SIM.

back in the day it also went by the name Gevey SIM.

As long as you have an old Sprint SIM card laying around (they're reusable)... and an IMEI from a phone that's compatible with Sprint's network, you can sign up for the $5 service (data only) or if you want to play it safe... $6 service (500mb data, 100 min). Pay for service, enter in IMEI and SIM card info, activate. You'll have instant access to a new phone number, pin to access port out info.

Don't by the porting number from eBay seller ignatto (Seller Based in Russian Federation).
Paid for the number and even after 12 hours no response, no number provided and won't reply back to my emails. Really bad experience.

Note to Mods: please add this info to Wiki.

There's a limit to how many you can buy, but yeah you can basically do that. People have been doing that for years with the various Metro, Boost, and Cricket deals. Metro has had the free SEs (1st gen) for much longer. You can search through the slickdeals for old threads of how people have been doing that for years and years and years

I've ordered from that seller before and he takes a while to give you the number to port. I believe he took 3 days before giving me my number. Keep contacting the seller. Also keep in mind some of these sellers only operate during business hours.

Exactly as you said it. You can find a referral link on the Cricket Wireless sub reddit. Click on that link and fill out your information. You will receive an email from Cricket with the code you need. Once you get your device, activate it and use that code. Directions will be in the email Cricket set you.

Cricket allows you to change your plan twice a month. Changing plans affects absolutely nothing.

No refunds. It just uses the remaining $30 for your next month of service. If you cancel the line, you lose that $30

Basically when you pay for this deal, you pay $50 for the phone and $60 for the service. If you change your plan day 1, then $30 is for your other month. Now say you forget to change the plan and you change it mid month, you will be refunded the prorated amount in the form of account credit.
