R-SIM is a SIM card add-on that looks like a really thin SIM card that mounts on top of your nano sim (or below depending on the model) that allows you to bypass the sim lock by hard coding a new ICCID that is unlocked.

You can buy the R-SIMs off ebay/amazon and they are usually $10 give or take.

It works reasonably well and the wiki talks about how to operate it, the only challenge is sometimes iOS updates break it and sometimes you need a new ICCID but for the most part it's great and allows you to use a SIM locked phone with any provider. and in this case you dont have to wait 180 days with Cricket to get an unlock code.

Keep in mind it is unlike the factory unlocking process which is permanent. Here you are dependent always on the R-SIM.

back in the day it also went by the name Gevey SIM.
As long as you have an old Sprint SIM card laying around (they're reusable)... and an IMEI from a phone that's compatible with Sprint's network, you can sign up for the $5 service (data only) or if you want to play it safe... $6 service (500mb data, 100 min). Pay for service, enter in IMEI and SIM card info, activate. You'll have instant access to a new phone number, pin to access port out info.
I bought 2 already. total cost $196 for 2 phones. trade in value of SE at apple is $210

Does anyone know (perhaps, those who ordered iPhones in previous deals), if the SIM card comes pre-installed? Or does Cricket provide the SIM card separate, where you have to insert it manually?
The SIM card comes separately but in the same shipment, you snap it out of the credit card sized card and insert it.

( A bit of fun trivia - that credit card sized card is the real "sim" Smilie. Then there's a mini sim inside it, then micro sim inside the mini, and finally a nano sim inside the micro like 🪆. Something kids today won't know )

Thanks for replying. Like turning on the phone without the SIM card. Keep the SIM card and activate it later (may be a long time later), because I really don't need the SIM card. I was thinking of when my friend come to visit me some day (For example, one year later), they might need a temporary phone, so I active the SIM card and use the service for only one month.

I've heard that you can only delay activation by only 10 or 15 days. At someone point it'll just automatically start eating your credit.

Correct, these are not itunes gift cards that they used to use like 10 years ago. These are apple Giftcards that can be used in the apple store or online at apple but not at third part sellers to buy apple products. So you can't use these at best buy to buy an iPhone.

Apple Online here are the terms : You can use up to 8 Apple Gift Cards. Apple Gift Cards can't be used with Apple Pay, PayPal or split credit card payments.

Another fact that has been reported atleast twice in this thread but also keeps getting misrepresented is that per the terms and conditions for cricket. You MUST "Activate" the phone on the $60 plan to complete the deal. Yes, you can then downgrade it to the $30 plan immediately after, but if you are trading them in you must activate the new iPhone on the plan prior or you will be charged full retail for the phone even if auto pay is turned off. They must bill your payment method used to purchase the deal.
Your certain that you have to activate the actual phone you ordered or do you have to activate the line? In other words, since the SIM card comes separate from the iPhone, can the line be activated by putting it in another cricket phone (or an unlocked phone)? I am unsure how strict Cricket is on having to activate the actual phone you ordered, or more of the actual line/phone number that was ported (if I were to guess, they are only concerned about the line being active, rather than both the actual phone and line working in tandem).

i was able to place 3rd order...my address has N for north so i wrote North instead of N and website could not verify the address so order went tthrough
Nice 👍🏽 - my street doesn't have a N or S prefix - maybe I'll just try adding a prefix - it shouldn't fail a CC check and might get around cricket's check.
If this works - would be genius hack

They haven't, but usually without fail there's deals that keep coming up starting turkey day thru Christmas. I'm hedging on those.

Worst case scenario - I'll trade these back in to Apple for a bunch of Apple credit. I realized it's kind of a no brainer you come out ahead either way.
