R-SIM is a SIM card add-on that looks like a really thin SIM card that mounts on top of your nano sim (or below depending on the model) that allows you to bypass the sim lock by hard coding a new ICCID that is unlocked.

You can buy the R-SIMs off ebay/amazon and they are usually $10 give or take.

It works reasonably well and the wiki talks about how to operate it, the only challenge is sometimes iOS updates break it and sometimes you need a new ICCID but for the most part it's great and allows you to use a SIM locked phone with any provider. and in this case you dont have to wait 180 days with Cricket to get an unlock code.

Keep in mind it is unlike the factory unlocking process which is permanent. Here you are dependent always on the R-SIM.

back in the day it also went by the name Gevey SIM.
As long as you have an old Sprint SIM card laying around (they're reusable)... and an IMEI from a phone that's compatible with Sprint's network, you can sign up for the $5 service (data only) or if you want to play it safe... $6 service (500mb data, 100 min). Pay for service, enter in IMEI and SIM card info, activate. You'll have instant access to a new phone number, pin to access port out info.
I bought 2 already. total cost $196 for 2 phones. trade in value of SE at apple is $210

They haven't, but usually without fail there's deals that keep coming up starting turkey day thru Christmas. I'm hedging on those.

Worst case scenario - I'll trade these back in to Apple for a bunch of Apple credit. I realized it's kind of a no brainer you come out ahead either way.
How do you trade multiple phones for credit to the same account to buy one phone like the iphone 12?

Yesterday I ordered the port in number on ebay with sdxx4less, didn't receive the number.
After a few hours I realized I needed to message the seller and give Carrier: Boost Mobile and my Area Code.
About an hour later I received the Ph#, Acct#, PIN.
Put in the iPhone SE order with Cricket in the evening and received the confirmation email.
Then received another email that I needed to update my phone number transfer information.
I'd pasted in the port in account number when I ordered. So I typed in the number on the linked page.
Checked order status today and shows: Your're all set.
So I'll see if I get a shipping notice on Monday.

edit: Received shipment notice just before noon.

To unlock a Cricket phone, phone must have a Cricket SIM (with active, functioning service plan) inside of it for 180 days.

I just renewed a month of prepaid with another carrier? I bought a new boost number to transfer over for this deal. Anyone know if I can wait to activate this? Does the months start when you turn it on? Any problems waiting?

A couple questions. Is this 6 months of service required to be consecutive or merely summative? Specifically, if I take the SIM out after say around 150 days (around 5 months) and put it in a back up phone, and then return it to the phone to be unlocked after some period of time and leave it in until it has been in for equal to or more than 180 days, will it be eligible?

If I put a device from new service onto a different, existing plan, will it be eligible for unlock after 180 days?

Stupid. With light usage the battery will last. You can also replace e battery for $50 and get service updates with apple for 5 years on this phone. You will be lucky
To get even 1 upgrade with your budget Android. Some people prefer a smaller form factor and don't need or want a phablet. Not for you then move on.
I agree. For ~$100 you are getting a flagship CPU in the A13 that should get 4-5 years of updates, water resistance, good camera and decent battery life if you are a light user(I turn on low power mode and it gets me through 5am-9pm on most days). Also as a bonus touch ID works way better than face id in our current world of face masks.

My wife has the original SE from a deal from Cricket a few years ago. This is a no brainer upgrade for her.

In general, the Sim has to stay in the phone for the entire 6 months for the unlock.
You can use the iphone with an existing Cricket Sim and it will still unlock after 6 months.

From my experience with Cricket (iPhone 8 plus in August and iPhone 8 in October), they can detect which phone the SIM has been with. Your unlock request most likely will be declined.

A silly question, as I have an unlocked Android phone, and not ready to use the newly purchased iPhone SE yet. So after activation with the iPhone I received, can I just pop the sim and put it in my Android phone, and use for 6 months, then request unlock the original iPhone? Will Cricket detect my iPhone not getting used during these 6 months, thus decline the unlock request?

I thought the same, but was shot down on the upgrade attempt. However, I'm sure she will need one in 3 months when they are $400 again.

Well if the listing says from 2 hours and even after 12 plus hours if customer doesn't receives any communication or update that obviously going to piss the customer. And going by the logic of 48 hours, they should honestly update the listing with a realistic ETA based on the ongoing demand and not leave a wide open windows justifying hey I said up 48 hours. Then as a customer we will justify giving negative rating and that won't be a good for the business. As a customer I am expecting the seller be honest and if customer is ok to wait that long then they will anyhow will buy, if not will move on to the next listing.
description states 2-24 hours, poster was upset after 12 hours. Do you expect the ebay seller to update everyone every few hours?
I'm guessing most sellers actually have a life and maybe don't check after working hours and possibly weekends.

I got one port number from sdcomputers4less and one from ignatto, both shipped today (so they do ship on saturday's). However I ordered them separately which sucks since I didn't get the $30 discount. So now I have to contact support and hope there's a way to get that $30 back while being able to keep the referral credit as well.

How were you shot down? Did your port in number not work?
