R-SIM is a SIM card add-on that looks like a really thin SIM card that mounts on top of your nano sim (or below depending on the model) that allows you to bypass the sim lock by hard coding a new ICCID that is unlocked.

You can buy the R-SIMs off ebay/amazon and they are usually $10 give or take.

It works reasonably well and the wiki talks about how to operate it, the only challenge is sometimes iOS updates break it and sometimes you need a new ICCID but for the most part it's great and allows you to use a SIM locked phone with any provider. and in this case you dont have to wait 180 days with Cricket to get an unlock code.

Keep in mind it is unlike the factory unlocking process which is permanent. Here you are dependent always on the R-SIM.

back in the day it also went by the name Gevey SIM.

As long as you have an old Sprint SIM card laying around (they're reusable)... and an IMEI from a phone that's compatible with Sprint's network, you can sign up for the $5 service (data only) or if you want to play it safe... $6 service (500mb data, 100 min). Pay for service, enter in IMEI and SIM card info, activate. You'll have instant access to a new phone number, pin to access port out info.

Also call them to confirm your account number and pin since getting it wrong will cancel your order and that takes 2-3 days for you to get that info. Also your TF account must be active.

I'm feeling antsy at trying out 2 more - if it doesn't go through it's a waste of $15 worth of portable numbers per order.

Were you able to make two separate orders to the same address? I got shipping confirmation this morning for 1 device I ordered yesterday, but I would like to order 1 more for my parent to the same address. Would this be a problem?

true, but they CAN transfer it to another phone with a different IMEI, you just have to call them, and it is a pain
