R-SIM is a SIM card add-on that looks like a really thin SIM card that mounts on top of your nano sim (or below depending on the model) that allows you to bypass the sim lock by hard coding a new ICCID that is unlocked.

You can buy the R-SIMs off ebay/amazon and they are usually $10 give or take.

It works reasonably well and the wiki talks about how to operate it, the only challenge is sometimes iOS updates break it and sometimes you need a new ICCID but for the most part it's great and allows you to use a SIM locked phone with any provider. and in this case you dont have to wait 180 days with Cricket to get an unlock code.

Keep in mind it is unlike the factory unlocking process which is permanent. Here you are dependent always on the R-SIM.

back in the day it also went by the name Gevey SIM.
As long as you have an old Sprint SIM card laying around (they're reusable)... and an IMEI from a phone that's compatible with Sprint's network, you can sign up for the $5 service (data only) or if you want to play it safe... $6 service (500mb data, 100 min). Pay for service, enter in IMEI and SIM card info, activate. You'll have instant access to a new phone number, pin to access port out info.
I bought 2 already. total cost $196 for 2 phones. trade in value of SE at apple is $210

I hate to ask like a noob but was wondering if someone could help as I have never been in this situation. my iPhone 7 I have on boost crapped out on me yesterday. It won't boot or turn on due to what appears to be a corrupt update. my Apple ID is tied to that phone and that line due to two factor authentication, so I can't access my device at all to approve login requests from other devices. Luckly I did make a backup on iTunes. What are the odds I'll run into any issues if I try to port in my number from boost to get in on this deal? considering my iPhone 7 is completely bricked. Won't hold a charge anymore, won't go into recovery mode, nada. I tried login in with my apple account on a clean iPhone 6 and right away it texted the verification to my 7 which is bricked
You'll need to figure out your account number and pin from Boost. As for iCloud/Apple account, you can probably get away with calling for a code for 2FA.

Walk it into a Apple store and they can jump start it regardless of in/out of warranty. My daughter's phone did the same, was out of warranty, and the booted it and told her to get a new one. Good luck

I've been with boost before in the past and I think you still have to call to get the port out info right? So stupid. You're right I may have to call apple for the two factor authentication approval.

Which model did you choose for iPhone when buying? Don't see iPhone SE in model options. TIA!
Doesn't matter. All the same.

Just got the phone. This is a Christmas gift for a family member already on their own cricket plan. I'm reading I don't need to activate the phone/sim or even set up an account? Is there anything I can do with the $60 paid? Otherwise just put the cricket SIM in a spare phone, downgrade to the $30 plan and have our cat use it for 2 months?

Thanks for the reply. Was there a charge for that? I'm decently tech savvy but this is kicking my ass. I can't set up an appointment either because it asks me to log in with my Apple ID. what a nightmare

and once it boots up, trade in at google fi for pixel 4a 5G. you will end up paygin about $30 for phone and another $45 something for 2 months of call and text (data is pretty expensive). you can get disposable number for google fi or maybe move one line to that for 2 months.

Anyone ever ported TFW (Net10, Simple Mobile, Total Wireless, etc.) numbers before? Read online it says last 15 digit of the SIM card is your account number... and pin is the pin you set up during activation. Is that true? Thanks!
Yes, that is correct, I follow the same and number transferred.

Was your line a BYOP or a phone you purchased from them (e.g. buying an iPhone XR that came with a preloaded card/sim)?

Purchased phone from amazon, but it doesn't matter, you have to use sim no as your account number, BTW, let me know via PM if you need ref for cricket

If you google the "Item Number" that is shown in your email, you will know what color it is.

They did not charge her and she walked in without appointment. This was three months ago and they were only seeing people by appointment, but she walked in and got lucky. I personally know that some of these employees are by the book and rather officious, but others will do their best to get you going.
