R-SIM is a SIM card add-on that looks like a really thin SIM card that mounts on top of your nano sim (or below depending on the model) that allows you to bypass the sim lock by hard coding a new ICCID that is unlocked.

You can buy the R-SIMs off ebay/amazon and they are usually $10 give or take.

It works reasonably well and the wiki talks about how to operate it, the only challenge is sometimes iOS updates break it and sometimes you need a new ICCID but for the most part it's great and allows you to use a SIM locked phone with any provider. and in this case you dont have to wait 180 days with Cricket to get an unlock code.

Keep in mind it is unlike the factory unlocking process which is permanent. Here you are dependent always on the R-SIM.

back in the day it also went by the name Gevey SIM.
As long as you have an old Sprint SIM card laying around (they're reusable)... and an IMEI from a phone that's compatible with Sprint's network, you can sign up for the $5 service (data only) or if you want to play it safe... $6 service (500mb data, 100 min). Pay for service, enter in IMEI and SIM card info, activate. You'll have instant access to a new phone number, pin to access port out info.
I bought 2 already. total cost $196 for 2 phones. trade in value of SE at apple is $210

They did not charge her and she walked in without appointment. This was three months ago and they were only seeing people by appointment, but she walked in and got lucky. I personally know that some of these employees are by the book and rather officious, but others will do their best to get you going.
well I do have being a male against me but I'll give it a try and see what happens. Thank you and happy holidays

I got the phone today, do I really need to activate it with the Cricket sim card if I don't need to unlock it? I buy it for trade in and if don't activate Cricket service, will there be any cost? thanks.

I hate to ask like a noob but was wondering if someone could help as I have never been in this situation. my iPhone 7 I have on boost crapped out on me yesterday. It won't boot or turn on due to what appears to be a corrupt update. my Apple ID is tied to that phone and that line due to two factor authentication, so I can't access my device at all to approve login requests from other devices. Luckly I did make a backup on iTunes. What are the odds I'll run into any issues if I try to port in my number from boost to get in on this deal? considering my iPhone 7 is completely bricked. Won't hold a charge anymore, won't go into recovery mode, nada. I tried login in with my apple account on a clean iPhone 6 and right away it texted the verification to my 7 which is bricked
I am not a Apple person but here is what I can think of
- put your SIM in another compatible boost phone, preferably android, then sign in using the web browser, using 2FA that generally comes as a Text msg.
remove iPhone from web version - activate new iPhone

Yeah I tried that on an old lg tribute from virgin mobile back from the old ring plus days. My active boost SIM Doesn't pass the activation process. I'm currently using an iPhone 6 (att and unlocked for sure, passes the boost imei checker) with the SIM card in it and it doesn't work either, it goes from showing boost as the carrier and then switches to "invalid sim"

I would activate it since you paid for the $60 sim anyways and to complete the port-in discount, though I'm not sure if Cricket would ever back-charge someone for not completing the port-in $200 discount...

Anyone ever ported TFW (Net10, Simple Mobile, Total Wireless, etc.) numbers before? Read online it says last 15 digit of the SIM card is your account number... and pin is the pin you set up during activation. Is that true? Thanks!
Account number is last 15 of SIM for GSM variants and the IMEI of the phone used to sign up for service for Verizon variants (in case you SIM swap phones).

Please, anyone, let us know if this is true about the e-SIM!!
The eSim is unlocked once the phone is unlocked.

I personally would activate it just to be safe since you're getting the $200 discount because of port-in discount. Not sure in the terms and condition if Cricket could ever charge you the $200 for failure to complete the port-in activation.

As for recurring charges, as long as auto-pay is off and no credit card linked to account, you'll be good to go. Just activate and toss the SIM or leave it in the phone to use for a month until the $60 plan runs out.

When I was trying to place my order, it just asked for port in phone number, didn't ask for account number and pin. Am I doing anything wrong?

Don't worry, you're doing it right!
It'll ask you for the Account and PIN towards the end.

This first step of entering a phone number validates that this number is from a Non-AT&T network and that it hasn't been registered with Cricket in the past six months.

If either of these conditions is not met, then it'll not apply the promo discount.

Received $25 off on $30+ purchase on my Bank Of America credit card, YMMV, but check your credit card for offers.
